Can anyone recommend a good yoga for fertility class in NYC? I think it is time I added that to the "mix"!

Thanks in advance, and best wishes to all!

Hi Cathie,

Thanks for your message! I heard of a video (DVD maybe) called yoga4fertility; I am going to try on amazon.com.

I was hoping to find a class for the instruction, inspiration and camaraderie!

If anyone knows of a good class in NYC, let me know! Thanks!

All the best,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I know quite a bit about the yoga scene here and as far as I know there aren't specific classes for fertility yoga but wouldn't that be a great idea to start one!(hey you're giving me an idea!!) I do teach yoga myself (privates mainly) and I love teaching. A wonderful man who has been around for many years is a man who has taught many other yoga teachers. His name is Dharma Mittra.(he was one of my teachers) He has a yoga center on 23rd and 3rd avenue called Dharma Yoga Center. Just make sure that he is teaching the class, there are many other instructors but he is the best. IMO the classes are well rounded in meditation, a little chanting, yoga postures and deep relaxation at the end(the most imp part!) A lot of other classes in the city are simply yoga aerobics which is NOT what you need. (A lot of stress to try to keep up with everyone else.) Yoga should NEVER be about that. I have been studying yoga for 28 years and was doing it when it was not popular. I am also convinced that doing yoga is what helps me to get pregnant even at my age. (now all I have to do is figure out the other part of that quotient!) I ABSOLUTELY SWEAR BY IT!!! and it has saved my life on more than one occasion. I think it would be fabulous for you especially in helping you handle stress. (don't we all need that especially us city girls)

Another good (pretty clean place not really affected too much by the Yoga popularity craze) is Integral Yoga on 13th street. There are some general beginner classes that are pretty good.

Whatever you do stay away from "hot" yoga also known as Bikram yoga which puts a lot of strain on your adrenals. Their rooms are far too hot to do yoga safely in my opinion. Definately not a good thing for fertility!

big hug to you!!

Jadu,

Thanks for your message! I thought of asking you directly, too, since I remember you were well versed in yoga.

On another board, I got the name of two private practitioners as well (anyone interested, I'll e-mail them to you). I'll see if I can get in either with Dharma or with one of these two women.

I have to confess, I have never been a fan of yoga. I always found it boring (sorry!!) But I am definitely ready and willing to try it now and give it my all, to enhance my overall health, STRESS REDUCTION, and hopefully fertility.

Thanks again and best wishes,

Lisa
