Finally got my lab results

My OB/GYN called me with my lab results (there were only 3 of them) but I'm taking them to our first RE appt next week. OB/GYN said they are all within normal ranges, but I don't trust her knowledge, as we on TTC have all agreed that my estradiol seems a little high. I'm sure the RE will want to run a more thorough Day 3 test next cycle but here is what I have so far:

FSH: 8.8

Estradiol: 98

AMH: 1.6

I am trying to find info online about the AMH, and I can't tell if this is normal or not. What is your feedback on the 3 numbers together?

My fertility specialist, SHER Institutes actually has a message forum on their site where the Drs actaully come in and answer your questions! Out in-person consult isn't till next week so I figured I'd give it a whirl and post some questions on the board. The Dr. responded within 12 hours to my questions! Amazing.

Well, it looks like they are pushing for IVF with ICSI. UGH. I am shaking a little as I type. What do you guys think of all of this?? I am reeling. I don't know....I don't know....

HERE IS WHAT I POSTED:

I had Day 3 blood work ordered by my OB/GYN. I received the following results:

FSH: 8.8
Estradiol: 98
AMH: 1.6

About me: I am 41 years old. We've been trying to conceive naturally for 4 months. I chart daily, and all my charts are normal/appear to ovulate, good eggwhite/OPK coinciding, etc.

My husband is 37, and has normal volume and motility of sperm. However his Kruger test morphology is 4%.

My 3 questions:

1. Given our ages and test results, is there any hope for us to conceive, whether naturally or assisted?

2. Would you recommend us continuing to try to conceive naturally, or go to IUI or IVF?

3. Is there anything a man can do to improve morphology on his own?

Thank you in advance.

AND HERE IS THE RE's RESPONSE:

One is the most important factors in fertility is age of the female. This is regardless of your labs. However having normal labs is better than if they were abnormal. Your AMH is good. Your FSH could be artificially lower this CD#3 because your estradiol is high. The high estradiol will lower your FSH but not make you more fertile. If you had an ultrasound the same day it may have shown an ovarian cyst.

As long as you are having cycles, there is a chance to conceive. The problem is that with increasing age there are fewer genetically competent eggs to fertilize. This is why you see higher miscarriage rates as a woman get older.

Your husband should be taking a good men’s multivitamin and antioxidants. The problem with vitamins/nutrients is that it takes months to see a significant change and you do not have the time. I still recommend he takes them.

Your best chance for success with fertility treatment would be to proceed with IVF and ICSI. There are fertility groups that would recommend you use donor eggs, from a younger woman ,since you are over 40. We believe in giving you the option to use your own eggs if you desire.

I hope this helps.
Best wishes,

David R. Corley, M.D.

actually, there are a couple of different scales for AMH, so hopefully your doc will use the one where over 1.0 is fantastic....

I wish I could remember my numbers, but I want to say my FSH was high because they told me I definitely had diminished ovarian reserve - thus not to wait...
