First round of clomid

Hello everyone...

I am 43 years old and have been ttc'ing for almost 3 years now after a tubal reversal. I decided to get more aggressive this time. My RE told me that he doesn't think I will O on my own, so I took 100 mg of clomid from CD 3-7 this month. Then an injection of pregnyl on Tuesday night. I have 2 follicles both of which haven't ruptured yet.

Here is my dilemna....

I bd'd on Monday night....the pregnyl injection was on Tuesday night....I bd'd on Wednesday night...and this morning I had an ultrasound which showed that I haven't O'd yet. I can't bd tonight...so I'm pretty upset...

Do you think that the Monday night bd'ing will still be effective if I O today sometime?

They told me at the RE's office that I would O in 24-36 hours, so that's why I timed the injection for Tuesday night...and here I am....40 hours after the pregnyl and no O yet :(

Thank you!

Canookie

Well that is indeed very strange. I did LOTS of stim cycles followed by an hcg injection and that amount of HCG in your system is guaranteed to cause ovulation within 36 hours. Did your doctor do a progesterone test? or did s/he rely on follicle u/s? Just wondering. In any case, I think you are ok with your bd timing. Remember the sperm can live 3-4 days so the bd the day after the shot should guarantee that! I would be suprised if you don't ovulate REAL soon. Are you seeing your doctor for a follow-up?

Hi Pat:

The RE nurse called me yesterday afternoon and told me that my bloodwork revealed that I had o'd already (as of Thursday morning)...she said my progesterone level was low, indicating that ovulation had already occurred...but yet the u/s still showed follicles that were larger than on the monday scan.

I went in this morning for another u/s and bloodwork this morning. According to the U/s I have o'd...but I'm uncertain when it happened.

I wanted to try and figure out if my Monday night bd'ing will be effective this ovulation. I know that my Wednesday bd'ing will be for sure. She also told me to make sure I bd tonight...but I always thought the egg is only good for 12 hours?

I am so confused lol

Thanks for responding :)

Hi again Pat:

I saw another question of yours that I had forgotten to answer....

I have decided to get aggressive about TTC'ing from now on. I will be doing clomid from now on since the RE thinks I don't O on my own very often (if at all). I got two good follicles this month from the clomid...both of which ruptured yesterday. So I will be seeing him on a regular basis... He's the same RE who did my tubal reversal in November of 2000 and I just love him to DEATH :) He's a good man who just wants to see me preggers lolol.

Hugs,

Patricia B.

Glad you like your doctor - it is important to have someone with whom you have a good rapport. Who is he? and where is the clinic? I am a bit confused with the nurses response around your progesterone level. AFTER you O your progesterone level should be HIGH not low. Maybe she made a mistake? Why don't you call and ask for the progesterone level? I always charted my cycles and recorded the results of all my tests on my charts. I found it really helped to accumulate a history as I could spot trends in my cycles and responses to meds. Glad you are getting a bit aggressive. Getting more than one egg per cycle definately ups the odds! I would not do clomid every cycle for a long time frame though as extended use of clomid can actually end up PREVENTING pregnancy. Clomid has some side effects such as thinning uterine lining and decreasing cervical fluid. This can prevent implantation and provide a hostile environment for sperm. Make sure your CD3 FSH/E2 levels are good before doing any stims. I know I had fluctuating FSH/E2 levels so ended up having natural breaks between stim cycles. Clomid will build up in your system over time so it pays to take a break (forced or otherwise). Have you thought about doing injectibles at all? As for bd timing I always bd'd the day of the trigger shot and then the next day and it always worked for me!

Are you in Toronto? If so, some of us are getting together for lunch September 15th downtown and I would love to meet you.

Let me know..... Pat

Well I just saw your response to me further down so will keep my responses all in one place!!! I also live in the east end... the beaches to be exact. I am not pregnant now but DID get pregnant when I was 46 and have a wonderful 2 year old son. My RE was Dr. Auyeung who is at St.George and Bloor. He is really great. He actually has a degree in pharmacology and then went on to get his OB/GYN specialization. He was really interested in the whole area of fertility so did his Reproductive Endocrinology degree in the States. The States is the only place which has this specilialized program and it requires 2 years of specialized study followed by an internship and also research requirements. You are lucky if you also found another doctor in Toronto who has the same qualifications. The only ones I know of are Dr. Auyeung, Dr. Librach, Dr Casper and Dr. Greenblatt. Is yours one of these? I do hope you will be able to join us for lunch on the 15th. We meet at noon at Sushi Man at Adelaide and Victoria (south of Queen and East of Yonge). Let me know!!!!
