fsh question

Hi, all!

I just had a physical & requested my dr. do an fsh test, which she said would be no problem since we were doing blood work anyway. Here's my question: I thought the fsh test needs to be done on cd 3, & I'm on cd 20 (or thereabouts). Am I wrong? I'm just not sure. Does anyone have any info?

Many thanks & baby dust to all,
Kim

I had mine done back in October while still on birth control pills -- the dr. did say it wouldn't give the whole picture since I was on bcp's. My lab work said my FSH was 3.2 -- whatever that means?!!

Hi Kim-

My doctor does FSH on cycle days 2-5. Since he's more consistent with the timing he has a standard range of where he likes to see it.

Take care-

Hi Kim
My understanding is that an FSH must be done on days 2, 3, or 4 to assess ovarian reserve. When I would go to my OBGYN, he'd do random FSH levels. Well, the numbers looked great so I had a (false) sense of security about my reserve. It wasn't until DH and I weren't getting pg and went to an RE that we learned about the importance of properly timed levels.
There is another type of test to help assess ovarian reserve, Clomid Challenge or CCCT. An FSH is done on day 3, then you take 5 days of Clomid and have the FSH retaken on day 10. My RE office adds both numbers and they want the total to be less than 25 (to be an IVF candidate). Of course, the lower the number the better. I think that if the cd10 level is higher than the cd3, it's not good.
Good luck,
~Ann
