FSH taken day 18! not day 3

My doctor did all my bloodwork on day 18 of my cycle, (FSH 119.6) My last period I only spotted for 2 days. Doc said that she does FSH in the mid cycle when ovulation is due to happen. Everything I have read says to do it on day 3. I don't think she knows what she is doing, so I am getting a second opinion. She said there is no way I could ovulate or get pregnant with levels this high. She is just a Nurse Practitioner & not actualy even a doc. I have decided to try a few things on my own. I am taking a soy tab, progesterone cream & a baby asprin every day now. See if I can boost my hormones myself while I am waiting to see other doc. I can't afford a fertility Doc, because my insurance won't cover it. Worth a shot I guess.

Oh NO! I would DEFINITELY seek a second opinion! I am not sure if that test means anything if not taken on the correct day! And to think that you may have needlessly gone through such anxiety, depression, despair, etc.. possibly without reason. I am so sorry you have had this experience. At the very least, can you get your fsh tested on day 2 or 3 next cycle (even if it means with her until you can switch practices), to get a more accurate picture? Good luck!

Please get a second opinion on this. This does not make any sense whatsoever. Every doctor that I've seen (and I've seen my fair share!) have all done my bloodwork on day 2 or 3 of my cycle. Of course you FSH levels will be over the top mid-cycle. Please insist on getting your bloodwork done by day 3 - this will give you accurate FSH levels.

Don't despair!!! You will feel much better with new information.

Take care,

Linda

Get your FSH rechecked on CD2 or CD3 AND also get your E2 (estrodial) checked at the same time. Both these are required to judge the FSH level. Given your previous AF this cycle this may also have been a bad cycle for you. An FSH of over 100 even mid cycle is a tad on the high side. However, FSH/E2 DOES fluctuate from cycle to cycle so you need to a) have it measured on the correct day and b) have it measured several times so you get to know what a normal range is for you.

Good luck!
