I want 2 bring ANOTHER 1 into the world?

I'm so distraught after 3 days on the phone & email with my son's principal and the district superintendent.

My son went to his first Homecoming dance Saturday night. He is attending a Magnet school here in Omaha. It's a magnet for a reason. They draw students from the suburbs with curriculum specialties. The only downside is the neighborhood they're in.

A fight broke out after the dance that night on school grounds, which ended with 20 people being arrested, tear gas and mace being used to disperse the crowd, a police helicopter hovering over the school and ~20 police officers trying to restore order.

I've shed more than a few tears since Saturday. What if someone had pulled a gun? I'm trying not to be dramatic, but my God! On the heels of Darrion Albert's beating death in Chicago, I am a bit frantic right now.

Nicholas and his girlfriend stayed close to a police car and then moved to the front steps when the teargas was fired. I am so grateful I'm not the one that picked them up because I would have been a sobbing mess trying to find them. The person who picked them up told me she had to park quite a distance away and walk to get on the property to find the kids.

After a talk with the principal, I learnt that there was another, more serious incident four weeks ago when a student brought to guns to school and has been charged with felony possession of a handgun among other things.

And I want to bring another child into the world??? I've barely survived this one.

God, how scary for you!

It does seem that schools are WAY different than when we were kids. But, now kids are armed and that scares the crap outta me. =(

Yes, Melissa, it is a scary place these days. I have been having some issues with my 14 yr old lately and wondering the same thing. However, I don't have to worry about the school part of it, since I homeschool. ((((Hugs))))

Whoa what a story! My husband and I made the decision in 1993 to remove our children from public school. We saw the decline in quality and the dangerous things going on at public schools. There were a few teachers who told us we were making a huge mistake. My oldest son is now a police officer and is hired to supervise the lunch hour at the public school we decided to remove him from. We laugh at how a home schooled kid is now the "zoo keeper" at the public school to promote order! LOL
