IUI #3 tomorrow

Hi,

haven't spent much time here the past week or so, kinda just took some time off.

Tomorrow morning is IUI#3 after my 2nd cycle of injectibles. Since my insurance doesn't cover infertility treatment, DH and I were going to ask RE if he thought higher doses of Clomid were worth a try since they're more affordable. Well, we were very fortunate to talk with an acquaintance who had 'leftover meds'! So we were able to do Gonal F this cycle, we had enough to do 3 amps a day for 7 days. We went saturday for an u/s, and went back again today. I have 1-16mm folly on the Rt side (my good side due to slt hydrosalpinx on left) and 2-11mm follies on left, with a few follies too small to count. My RE gave us the choice to either do two more days of injectibles to see if the 2 on the left would catch up or go ahead and do HCG today w/IUI tomorrow. I asked his opinion and he said that it appeared that the 2 left follies hadn't changed in size since saturday so they might not be growing and if they do get fertilized, I still run a 50% risk of ectopic on that side. But he gave us the option which is one reason I am glad he's my RE. DH and I discussed it and we decided to go right to the IUI. If the 2 left ones make it past 12mm, the RE said they could be mature enough, so we could still be dealing with more than 1...

Because I read about women responding to lower doses of injectibles with many more follicles, I asked the RE what he thought about my response to the injectibles based on my FSH, age, and dosage. He said that I'm actually responding less than he'd expect, and if we decide to do IVF, he'd put me on 8 amps a day and would hope to get 5-10 eggs.. I did some calculations when I got home, ouch! thats alot of $$, how I wish my insurance covered IF tx. DH and I have been talking about IVF, he's concerned about the money and the low rate of success for our age. I'm concerned too, but I'm also worried that our window of opportunity is closing (I turned 42 last week, and it just sounds so much older than 41 :-( Well, our fingers are crossed that the 'leftover meds' will bring us luck and we won't need to do another cycle.

sorry this ended up being so long, it just all came out as I typed...

God bless ladies,

JnAnB,

I wish you all the best. I'm 42 (43 in 3 months - which sounds so much older still!) and I really understand how you feel about the age factor.

I hope this cycle is the one for you! Take good care of yourself the next few days with the IUI and all.

Best wishes and BABY DUST,

Lisa

Hi JnAnB,

I don't know anything about Gonal F and am just starting to learn about all this. I wish I could tell you something more. From what they tell me, it only takes one....! I am on repronex, what is the difference between Gonal F and repronex? I am about to do the IUI myself....and have questions as well...I suppose there comes a time when we have to trust these doctors know what they are doing........

I also feel the same way about the age thing....every single day. I just turned 43 last week and it was hard.....I remember my 40th birthday was so wonderful, not a worry, sure is different at 43!

Best of luck to you! I will be thinking of you.....!

JnAnB: Sending you lots of baby dust and tons of good wishes...hoping this IUI is successful.

I have been on Gonal F since Christmas Eve (Happy New Year to me...) and the number of follicles I've gotten has really varied a lot. The doctor isn't happy if he sees more than 5 developing and then tries to cut me back on the amount I take as well as the number of days. I've done 5 cycles...one cycle for only 6 days and then another for as many as 12 days...I can't figure out anything I've done differently. I think my body just handles each cycle a little differently.

I am a total Type A person...so this is more than annoying (hee hee). I want to know when things need to be scheduled, preferably to the half hour...as you might imagine my initial few months on my fertility journey I was a spaz. I've now lightened up a lot...and make as few commitments as possible that can't be changed last minute.

My thoughts & prayers are with you...This is going to be your month!!

Hi Barb

from what I've read, Repronex is FSH and LH combined where Gonal F is just FSH. My Dr started me on Repronex because it was the least expensive, and I think Drs like to see how someone responds to injectibles in general.

Let me know if you have any questions about IUI's, I'm beginning to feel like a pro at them...

btw, when was your bday? mine was the 20th, maybe we share a bday!

Thanks ladies, for all your words of support.

I really appreciate it! I'm in a more positive frame of mind today.

The IUI went as usual and now it's 2ww time again.

God bless, and sending positive thoughts to each of you,

JnAnB
