IVF, Take Two

Hey, gang -- I'm trying IVF again. I didn't post during our first try and we weren't successful, so I'm counting on the positive energy of this board to help with this go-'round!

There's been a bit of a hiccup. I was supposed to start the estrogen priming protocol tomorrow (CD 21). However, AF had other ideas and showed up today. What the what?!? And get this: my RE's lab is shutting down for a month for its biannual maintenance, meaning we wouldn't be able to try again until July (an eternity!).

The good news: the doc is going to try a different but similarly aggressive protocol that will take less time, so we can start this week as planned. I'll find out the details tomorrow when I go in for blood work.

So that's my story. I'll definitely keep y'all posted -- and would welcome any P&PTs, cheerleading, crossed fingers or whatever nice thoughts you can send my way. I'll send some back to you, too!

It sounds like you responded well to your last round of IVF and you did get implantation.

Laurie, thank you -- what you wrote makes a lot of sense, and makes me more confident in my chances. We came so close last time...

I start the Lupron on June 8! On BCP right now, which cracks me up -- those are what prevented me from getting PG in my way-fertile days. Seems so counter-intuitive to take them now.

Sorry I am late coming into this, I have slowly been catching up on things here. I hope your cycle goes really well, I agree that it sounds very encouraging! You are right about the stress, the more settled you can be the better things will go when you do get your BFP, which is hopefully very soon :-)

Thanks, Michelle and Wannabemommy! Your support means a lot to me.

Now, about that stress level -- I'm a fairly high-strung person in general so trying to stay calm during this whole thing is challenging. Two of my techniques -- a glass of wine or beer and vigorous exercise (not at the same time!) -- are forbidden during IVF. I really have to do more meditation and breathing.

Also driving me a bit crazy -- it's the beginning of summer and I want to plan a vacation, but I have no idea what I'll feel up to doing.

If you have a favorite relaxation technique I'd love to hear about it!

Well you blew my relaxation technique of drinking a glass of wine while on the treadmill!

Ha, Susan, you crack me up! Bubbly juice and a squeeze ball sound like great ideas. I'm never sure about bubble baths -- can TTCing women take them or not?

Atlantis sounds awesome! Have a great time.

Hi, all -- I officially start IVF cycle #2 today. I gotta say, I'm not feeling terribly optimistic. The baseline ultrasound showed 6 antral follicles. To my surprise, the doctor said that's probably what we'll have to work with. I thought the stimming drugs would generate more eggs, but I guess what they do is develop the eggs you have at the start. Dang.

The nurse told me they might see more eggs at the next u/s (on Friday). Man, I'm hoping... My research is showing that women my age with fewer than 8 eggs have about an 8% chance of live birth. That ain't great.

So assuming this morning's bloodwork is all OK, I start the lupron shots tonight and the Gonal-F tomorrow.

I really hope this isn't all for naught.
