The LH surge that never ends....

I know you are supposed to just get the one positive OPK and then stop testing.....but....I kept testing, every mid-morning and evening. I can't be the only one to have done that!

I've now had three days of positive mid-morning tests. When I got home from work around 6pm I poas again and it was still positive. I just poas again 8pm (3 hrs later) and the darkness of the line has finally abated enough to be considered negative.

So....I know we can ovulate anytime between 12-36 hours after the surge. In your alls experience, does the LH surge keep showing up even after you ovulate?

Bridget,
If you were taking clomid then don't agonize too much about the temps. It messes with your bbts. They say you can get a possible coverline from a few days after you stop taking it to when you surge, but it is tricky.

Also, clomid can cause a positive OPK, I believe. So, although it is supposed to be ok a few days after you stop taking it, maybe there was some lingering that caused the OPKs to go wacky.

sounds like you covered all of the bases though! good luck.

Temp was elevated this morning and OPK using FMU was negative (I assume the rule to avoid using first morning is null and void when the surge is ongoing). FF has not yet detected the ovulation date, so I guess it's either going to draw the cover line right on CD 19s temp and make o-day the 18th, or the cover line will be above CD 19s temp and the 19th will be the o-day. I suppose it could also draw the cover line above my CD 20 temp, and make CD 20 the o-day, but I suspect not.

DHs MAF seems to be all gone, which is super nice. First words out of his mouth this morning: "was your temp up?" and then, "how soon can you test?"

Yes. I took it cycle days 4-8 this time. That makes it another vote for the 18th then!

Wow, you're lucky Bridget! I tried several months ( a couple years back), and it was always a craps shoot, didn't give me anything useful... I would continue to test and it would go + then - then + again... Never knew that there was a reduced reliability for us over 40.

Haven't tried again since then, but have been temping for 3 months with mostly typical results. But this month, temps were up and down and never went up over 98. I think it's because my new RE told me to step taking progesterone, but hey, who knows...

Hi Elizabeth...both times I got pregnant before I had used OPKs successfully to time BDing and was not temping (I am new to the temping).

But I never kept testing this long after the positive before so it sure does have me confused. I'm not ready to give up on them yet though!

Thx Martha and Susan. It helps to have chart stalkers. It's not on my published chart, but we BD'd on the 15th and then the 17th, and then last night (day 19), so if it was the 16th or 18th I suppose I am ok. Not great - but ok. He was in a lot of discomfort those days (he has a long standing issue with two herniated discs in his lower neck) and every day just wasn't possible this last week. Now he feels better (of course!) and after BDing this morning was the one to suggest doing it tonight also. And its probably too late to matter. Ah well!
