Back to CD1. AF arrived right at lunch time today. I chart my temp and kind of knew this morning when it went down...of course I had the monthly "Maybe the thermometer is broken" discussion with myself...

I see the doctor Thursday and I will go on a 4th month of gonal F shots. I dread those shots...

Thanks for all your notes...I really appreciate it.

Hi Margie,

Good luck!! Ah the gonal F shots - yeah, I did six cycles of that but my own follicles didn't behave and show up in decent number or size. I apologize to all out there - in an earlier post I said the shots were no big deal. Perhaps I should explain, I hate taking pills! They always seem to get stuck. So, for me at least, the jabs are a dareisay more pleasant way to get various meds. Should also explain that I know several women who have had successful pregnancies and prepped me well for the meds I would be taking.

So - Margie - you go girl! Am sending good vibes your way - Barbara

Barbara: Thanks for your note...do you know how many follicles I should get with the gonal f? My RE upped the dosage this month...more because I was pushing. He told me he'd rather do a lower dosage of the drug and get fewer follicles...he doesn't want to have multiple births.

Of course, I'm like, how bad could triplets be? LOL...I don't even have one baby and suddenly I'm going for three...do you ever think about stuff like that?

We'll see how this month goes...hope all is well with you

Hi Margie

I agree, at this pt I'd love to have twins!

Sometimes it's a little sad when I think how I'll never have a family like my parents had. I'm the youngest of 6 children, and we're in our 40's and 50's but we're very close... I wouldn't trade any of them for anything!

Hi again, Margie - your question makes me think you're doing IUI this cycle? When I was taking Gonal F they upped the dosage (for me it was also only after I requested it) and it didn't make any difference re: numbers/sizes of follicles. The number isn't really the important thing but the size and quality. If it's IUI, I can understand why the DR wouldn't want to see a large number. If doing IVF, it doesn't really matter since they'll retrieve them all, put the ones that are of decent size - usually above 12-15 in w/ sperm and then transfer whatever number you and DH (and the DR) recommend. Clinics are so varied in this - some say transfer 3-4 embies, others say no way, too dangerous - if they all take and you decide you want to/need to reduce it's an added risk. You might successfully reduce to two or the whole process could result in miscarriage. From what I've read most clinics will not reduce from 2 to 1 as the risks of losing both are too high.

Well, I am sitting by the phone, at work, waiting for the clinic to call me back with results of this morning's blood test. Last time I left work early, dashed home and sat watching the phone for two hours and finally called them to say, hey, where are my results. Like all of us here I am desperate for a baby - if I was blessed with twins then great. Triplets?? I'm scared just thinking about it.

Keep positive - always have a plan B. My plan B is to go with the remaining emby that is safely ensconced in ice (or whatever it is they use to freeze them!). Best wishes - Barbara

JnAnB: Oh, I totally agree about some sadness about not having a family like my parents. I am one of 4...from my oldest sister to my younger brother there is less than 5 years. We had so much fun growing up and now we are all so close & good friends.

I just pray for one beautiful baby...what a gift and a blessing that would be. Take care.

Barbara: Yes. I have done IUI each cycle I've used gonal f. We'll see if we have success this month. My estrogen & progesterone levels all seem in the above average marks...so the doctor keeps saying "be patient"...after 5+ years (3 1/2 years w/no assistance & 1 1/2+ seeing this RE) and no success, I don't know what to say to him...

So...where are you at in your cycle? Was this mornings blood test a pregnancy test? I'll be sending warm thoughts your way...

My Plan B is to try gonal f w/IUI 2 more months...then Plan C is to move on to IVF. (Don't have a Plan D...yet). I have an appt on Monday to discuss IVF w/ a clinic that is well recognized here (I live in Chicago). I also plan to ask the doctor about my current RE and just get a 2nd opinion if what I'm currently doing makes sense to him. Don't mean to blame my RE that I'm not pregnant, but he really hasn't given me any explanation...I know there can be unexplained infertility, but I just want to see what someone else says.

Take care.

Margie
