My name is Barbara, and I'll be 43 in October.  Long story short, I've been using an android app on my phone to help me keep track of my period and ovulation days, and it's been pretty accurate when my period should start.  My period should have started yesterday.  When I woke up yesterday morning, I decided to take a pregnancy test just in case I got bad cramps' I'd be able to take Pamprin for the pain.  I saw a very faint positive line on the Target home pregnancy test.  After reading some reviews about it, I decided not to drink anything and test again in a few hours with a First Response test.  I also got a very faint positive line.  I took a picture of both tests and sent it to my fiance, and he also saw the two faint positive lines.  This morning, I decided to take another pregnancy test (also using first morning urine), and this test came up as negative.  Now I'm a bit confused...  Unless I get my period, I will try and wait another couple of days before testing again.  I guess what I'm wondering is what are the possibilities that I'm not pregnant?  I don't seem to have any pregnancy symptoms nor do I have any normal period symptoms (like cramps or backaches).  I have an appointment to see my doctor at the end of the month, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or opinions they would like to share with me before then.  I hope I provided you all the information you need.  I've been a long-time lurker.  Thank you.  Barbara  PS I hope I posted in the right section.

Welcome...It is my understanding that some tests are more sensitive than others.  Also it may be a day or 2 too early to show a bold/solid line.  I would wait another day or 2 and test again.  It sounds like you are going to get the result you are looking for.  Good luck!

I know it's hard to wait, but I would wait another couple days....it's too early yet & the best way to know is to miss your period....good luck! I hope it is your BFP!  :smileywink:

Dear Blue Oval,

Here's hoping you are pregnant....

Have you also been temping as a continuous high temp can be a sign pregnancy as I'm sure you know, and it is nice to have "back up" knowledge that all is well.

I remember doing a cheap pregnancy test once that came up negative on the day my period was due and then a First Response on the same day which showed a feint positive but then unf my period started that very day -it was a chemical pregnancy. That''s not to say yours is of course.

With my pregnancy that "stuck" I had a much darker positive line on the day my period was due, although by then I was so paranoid about having another chemical that I kept testing every day and I noticed some days the lines were darker than others....On the days when the lines were lighter I got worried that I was losing the pregnancy but I was lucky it went to term.

I have read that the darkness of the line can depend on many things, such as how much water you've drunk that day, what time of day you're testing etc.

Just proving the point that lines can get darker or lighter and brands can be different in their accuracy......

Good luck

Oh I'm sorry to hear that.....

But be reassured that it is very common and that plenty of people go on to have healthy pregnancies after chemicals. My doctor said to me that around 50% of conceptions can be lost early on, it is very very common. In the past women would not even have known they'd conceived (they'd just have a period that was a day or two late and may just be considered a long cycle) but with these very early pregnancy tests, he said, it is almost worse because we get our hopes up, only to be disappointed later.

Anyway, here's hoping for a very definite dark line next time you see a BFP! It's a good thing that you are able to conceive anyway!

Barbara, I will be keeping my FX for you.  There are a lot of women who say that the blue dye tests will show a false positive and some women say their husbands tested positive on them (not necessarily the Target brand but blue dye).
