I was talking to another lady tonight, who is also in her early 40's, and I was telling her how much external itching I've been having. Well, she told me that in pg, your estrogen levels go up a lot (obviously) and now that I've had a D & C, my levels are now plummeting (I noticed the itching even more after my last 3 D & C's too). She said that she was having a major problem with itching for the longest time and tried the over the counter yeast treatments and even Diflucan, but didn't help much. It turned out that all she needed was a topical estrogen cream that her OB prescribed (and used externally) and all the itching went away.
Hey Danielle. It sounds to me like you do have a legitimate concern here. It is worth investigating further to know if Estrogen is the problem.
Sometimes we have to pretend to be PI's to find things that dr's might overlook. Just like my thyroid, one dr said it was normal but couldn't tell me why I had so many symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Anyhow, yes I do feel like a PI trying to do detective work. I realize that all I may be doing is hitting my head against the proverbial wall here, but I don't want to leave any stones unturned ya know? I also realize I may never get an answer and all these losses are just due to age and there may not be a darn thing I can do about it either. But until I know that I'm for sure not fertile (which I DEFINITELY AM), I'm not going down without a fight....despite all the odds against me!

Dani,
Good detective work!
Has your OB/GYN ever tested your prog. levels during early PG or any of your hormone levels in your cycle the last couple cycles?
Has the subject of prog. supplementation ever been discussed?
The m0nth I g0t pregnant- I used a natura1 pr0gest cream right after I 0'ed and c0ntinued t0 use it up unti1 the 17-18th week 0f pregnancy-
As far as an RE...I'm just not really sure I want to go that route yet. I've heard that they can be very negative with women over 40 and I really don't need to hear the stats about m/c's increasing over 40 or the fact that each month over 40, your eggs get older and older. I know all that, ya know? On the other hand, as much as my OB tells me that, yes, there's an increased chance of m/c and all the other stuff, he's never once given up on me and really thinks that since I'm still getting pg pretty easily, that there still a good chance to have a healthy pg. He's very supportive of us continuing to try. I see him again this coming Friday, March 4th. I may bring up the question of seeing an RE with him though and get his consensus on whether the doc there will be supportive of our decision (he knows the docs there pretty well---there's only one in town) without resorting to IUI or IVF...which I won't do, for personal reasons.
Ah well, we shall see.
Yep...I have had the itching thing too. I'm considered "estrogen high". Meaning my estrogen is very high throughout my cycle with very low progesterone. I can get PG, but miscarry between 7-10 weeks. My cycles tend to sawtooth (up one day down the next all the way to the end) rather than bi-phasic (down at the beginning high at the end) and were lasting up to 44 days. My body remained perpetually in an "about to ovulate" state. I was suffering. The itching was terrible. I had the yeast problems too from all the cervical mucus. I had massive fibroids (had a myomectomy in 09).
I saw a naturopath about my fertility and she recommended testing my thyroid, removing all external man made estrogen products (most toiletries have parabens in them...they mimic estrogen), stop drinking milk and red meat to avoid additionally treated foods with hormones (estrogen) and taking my progesterone levels. I also started BBTing every day.Bingo! I'm estrogen dominant with low progesterone and have hyperthyroidism. There's no way I would ever be able to take a pregnancy to term under these conditions.
Now I'm on Clomid to make me OV, Metformin to counter the glucose levels so my estrogen doesn't surge out of control and Propylthyracil to regulate my thyroid. The itching went away within a few weeks. The yeast problems went away. My stomach/bowel problems ceased.
BTW-My regular doctor missed all of this and wanted to put me on anti-depressants.
Well, I've been doing my BBT for many years and even recently, my temps are still pretty normal...not "see-sawing" like you described yours were like. My cycles range from 27-30 days with O occurring between cd-12&15. I have a good rise in temps and stays that way until AF. So I don't think I'm estrogen dominant. I've also had a full RPL workup and showed my thyroid was normal as well as many other things, were normal. My progesterone may very well be low though, cause I have 2-5 days of pre-AF spotting, which is a little excessive. Though even with the spotting, my temp doesn't really drop until full AF. Anyway, I'll be on a little higher dose of progesterone after O next time and I'll probably have it tested right after a bfp (I usually take an hpt early).
Thank you for the insight though. I hope this protocol works for you and you carry to term next time.
