To get back to the conversation about the Progesterone cream, I was prescribed a custom compounded cream by a holistic doctor that I have been seeing since March 2010 for a hormonal imbalance. As Susan said, the cream is not the same as the suppositories that some women use to increase prog after ovulation. It's a cream that you put on your body, applied in places where skin is thinnest sort of as a time release absorption of the hormone. My holistic doc prescribed it for me after a series of saliva hormone tests indicated that my stress level was very high which was creating estrogen dominance over progesterone, which in turn was giving me lots of ugly symptoms like irregular periods, fatigue, low libido, vaginal dryness, moodiness, etc. All of which I have had since my son was born three years ago.
Anyway, I used the creams for 3-4 months, twice a day, every day. But they were not easily portable. The dosage was so high that I had to undress to expose enough skin to apply the cream. The cream stained all of my light colored clothing and my sheets, and i hated putting it on, so i would forget (skip) doses. When I asked the holistic doc about other options, she gave me a prescription for the same compound in oral form, which I have been taking for a month and a half.
The good news is that it is so much easier to take and keep up with. It really helped to regulate my periods. The not so good news is that it really hasn't helped me get pregnant or with the vaginal dryness, low libido or fatigue.
The weird news is that yesterday, when I had my first appt with the RE, she told me to stop taking the oral progesterone, and that taking it in the first half of my cycle before I O could potentially screw up or delay ovulation.
So, I hope that the above information helps, but now I have a few questions of my own since I have two doctors giving me opposite information. Thinking of going to a third doc for a tie breaker. Any thoughts? Does anyone else have any experience with Natural Progesterone while TTC?
