TTC at 41 After 3 Miscarriages. HELP!
Fri, 08-27-2010 - 3:53am

Hello and Hi Everyone!

I'm 41 and have miscarried 3 times since starting TTC at 39.
Two miscarriages were at 12 weeks (after heartbeat and all).

I get pregnant really easily and my hormone levels seem good, except for somewhat
low Progesterone (for which I am now taking oral progesterone).

I've had my thyroid checked and our genetic tests and sperm tests were all great.

So now what do I do?

Do I just keep trying?
Should I get some kinds of injections to increase chances?

I am really new at all this and could use some encouragement
and advice...especially since the jerk sperm doc just said: I think this is all
because you are older. No encouragement at all.

Any help at all would be ecstatically accepted!

Thank You.

Welcome! First of all, I'm sorry for your three losses. I don't know much about all the testing that gets done with an RE, but I wonder if they did genetic testing on the embryos and also if you have been tested for the various clotting disorders? After two normal pregnancies my sister-in-law had two losses at 12 and 14 weeks. They tested the embryos for chromosome abnormalities and there were none, so they tested her for clotting disorders and she had one. She is now due in September after giving herself daily shots of blood thinner (sorry, don't know the name) The other women on the board will be a much better source of information.

Don't give up hope and don't listen to that mean sperm doctor! I got pregnant with my first at 41 after a miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy. I read somewhere, that yes we are older and so are our eggs, but there are some good ones in there, so hang in there!
Good luck.

Hi & Welcome!

We have somewhat similar stories. I have 2 kids, and have been ttc #3 for 4 years. I have been pregnant 4x in those 4 years. Twice were in the second trimester, one at 19 weeks. Both babies had normal chromosomes. All my testing (and I've had a lot# has come back normal. Baffling.

At any rate, I have good fertility test results as far as getting pg #although it seems to be taking awhile this time)...I have super supportive docs and that is really the key I think. If your doc's aren't on board, dump them immediately and find one who is.

Good luck w/ your journey, this is an awesome place for support, information and camaraderie. Jump right in and don't give up hope!

I am very sorry for your loss. I also was TTC after 2 M/C, and had a very interesting chat with a nurse while tearily awaiting a D&C about 2-3 years ago. She noted that I should research low progesterone, as it was the cause of something like 95% of repeated miscarriage. So, I did. I had it treated and conceived again. With that problem corrected - I went on to have a perfectly healthy, happy baby.

It seems like you are aware of your progesterone issue, and are treating it... but perhaps you could stand to have a more supportive doctor working with you on this.

Just my 2 cents.

hi, there,
I know that they do have surrogate mother programs... If everything else is working, possibly this would be a way to go?

I have a feeling, though, that things will work out for you now that you're on progesterone.

I am so sorry for your losses, and not having any answers as to why, that is the hardest. I am new to this TTC over 40, had an unexpected pg in March that we were shocked and surprised to get, so happy about though, but then lost at 6 wks, we decided to try again and 5 months later, nothing.
