Someone on the Invitro board asked about vitamins & herbs, thought this might help us!

I have been reading & reading. What I have dicovered is that eveyone feels that meat & dairy should be avoided. This seem to because of the growth hormones. If you can get hormone free products & organic fruits & vegetables it is best. IF seems to have become an epidemic. There are many factors: The average man's sperm counts have gone down on 30% since I believe the 1950's. Women are waiting longer to have children. With all the new tech, people are more inclined to go for treatment, so we see more volume. Pesticides & growth hormones are getting into our systems. Our soil is depleted of minerals due to overpolulation/overuse of soil. Pollution. Toxic waste. Fast food. We are exposed to so much bad stuff in the air & water & our food supply is full of crap. We are not getting the proper nutrition. It's no wonder our bodies are not working properly.

I was on an extensive vitamin regiment that was working well but stopped because my IVF Dr. said they didn't know how the herbs would affect IVF. My vitamins had many herbs & vegetables included in each pill. I have been able to find them individually & made a list of what is best for me personally. I am waiting for a call from my RE & my RI to see which ones they will let me take.

So far the best concoction/plan I have come up with is: Use your juicer daily, Make fresh juice from organic fruits & vegetables. Try to avoid store bought juice. Prenatal vitamins are hard on the stomach but a must.

Wild Yam: Everyone seems to be a the Yam bandwagon for fertility. Only thing is they should be African Yam which are hard to find. I am substituting with Reg Yams & a Wild Yam supplement. You can overdue the Yam thing so eat them in moderation. Pycnogenols & Co Q 10 are great for everybody & safe to take with IVF. Just make sure you get the purest kind & that it has no additives or herbs in it. Magnesium is very imortant for fertility. Most women don't get nearly enough. It must work in conjunction with calcium to get the most out of both supplements. If you eat a lot of dairy & are not taking a Magnesium supplement you for sure don't have enough in your blood stream. Most Calcium supplements now contain magnesium but in small quantities. The best one @ GNC has both @ 100% daily value along with Zinc (also very important for fertility) & boron. Bee pollen, royal jelly, blue green algae: all very helpful. I am waiting to see if I can take this due to immune issues. My immune system is too strong & I have to be careful about anything that might give it a boost instead of just regualting it. Wheat grass is a biggie & everyone should take it. There is a supplement @ GNC called Green Earth Food & it has all that stuff in it. Amino Acids & fish oil very important. As far as anything else with herbs etc. I highly recommend that book The infertility Cure. I have read 4 different books this week & they all have those things in common when it comes to fertility & also preventing M/Cs. With this book you have to check off all of your symptoms & figure out which catergories you fall into, so each person would need different herbs/treatment.

I am also introducing Yoga into my health program. There is a video called Yoga 4 fertility. I am being treated by an RE, an RI, an acupunturist, doing Yoga, the diet & the vitamins along with whatever herbs my Drs will allow! This had got to work this time!!!!

Any help I can give you let me know. Books to read are: The infertility Cure, The Infertility Diet, Preventing M/C the good news, miscarriage why it happens & how to reduce your risks & Inconceivable.

Any thing you decide to take check with your Dr. first.

Hope this helps!!

Wow, Lisa, what a great post!!

I am going to re-read it, and take notes.

Do you know any good websites or sources that recommend acupuncturists, yoga instructors etc. that specialize in fertility? I think I will also start down the "extreme" path and just do everything!

Thanks so much for all the great information and BABY DUST to you,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

My RI gave me the O.K. for all the stuff I outlined except for the ginseng which was questionable to me anyway in re to PG. He gave me a web site zitawest.com I haven't looked @ it yet. I found the book "the Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis (who is an acupunturist) to be the most comprehensive. All the books I read agreed with her theories & treatment plans. Her web site is easternharmonyclinic.com As far as the Yoga goes I ordered the tape Yoga 4 fertility from Blockbuster. A web site found is yogajournal.com

Keep me posted!!!!

Lisa,

I will definitely check out those websites. Someone gave me the name of an acupuncturist in my city, and I am going to make an appt as soon as I get back from Europe.

I hope this stuff makes a difference for us; I actually believe it will!

Best wishes and ***baby dust*** to you!

Hi Lisa,

WOW. that was an amazing post and I am sure will be very helpful to everyone out there. I just posted in another section of this board that I got a BFP!!! And I can attest to the vitamins/herbs/diets and other alternative stuff for good fertility. So now I am pregnant I just have to stay pregnant! I have been focusing on good nutrition, prenatal vitamins, juicing still, lots of protein, listening to my body. I have stopped any exercise because I had a little scare with some spotting and cramping, but normally I would do yoga every day. I am still going to be cautious until the 12 week mark. OH please God just get me through these next 6 weeks!!!

Another thing I didn't mention in my post about my protocol was a drink called Green Vibrance. Not only is it great stuff (it has so many super foods in it that are of really high quality) but the owner is a wonderful man. I wrote to the company to find out if it was OK to continue to take while pregnant and he wrote me back a long letter and we have been corresponding ever since. He has offered some really good advice (he is a clinical nutrionist) on certain foods I should stay away from and some I should consume a lot of. One thing he said was all women who are pregnant or who wish to get pregnant should stay away from potatoes. His wife has delivered 3 healthy babies and she took Green Vibrance every day.

I also have a wonderful acupuncturist here in NYC who put me on MACA which is a Peruvian herb that balances hormones in both women and men. What is funny is that he "warned" me that the herb also had the reputation of making you "tiger in the bedroom", which was a side effect I didn't mind so much(nor did my BF).

lots of baby dust!!

Hi Lisa,

Everyone is slightly different in what their diet should be according to their body type, blood type etc. and I was told that I have too much soy in my diet, so I have cut back on that and have been mixing it up a little in terms of different kinds of foods. Staying away from potatoes and peas and being careful with too much seafood(that is particular to me because I have a congenital liver disorder that affects how i process methionine an amino acid that is in many different foods like seafood). Also staying away from any meats or dairy products that have hormones in them.

I have to tell you, I am really convinced that a combination of diet and exercise can really change your body and metabolism, but I truly believe that whatever is done in terms of changes should be streamlined for each individual.

I went to a new MD yesterday who works with each person in a different way. He is amazing. He spent 2 hours interviewing me, asking 1000's of questions that may seem inconsequential to most doctors, but are all things that are important for him to know. He does comprehensive bloodwork and then advises his clients what diet and supplementation they should be on, and if they need any other treatment he will handle that too.

He told me that he just got a 53 year old woman pregnant naturally with her own eggs based on his treatment with supplements etc. which were designed specifically for her. I wish that got into the media!!! Everyone is always so negative about older women conceiving and I think that we as a community need to stop buying into the negativity and fear about our eggs being too old. The body is an AMAZING instrument and there are ways of feeding it so that it can really turn things around. There are so many examples of this. I mean look at Julia Indichova! What an inspiration she is!!!

best,

Jadu
