Well, very simply it is a medication that helps many women to ovulate. However, many doctors use it with women who ovulate but are having difficulty getting pregnant. Some doctors believe it can "jumpstart" your reproductive system and clomid will be used as the first step in treating infertility bc it is relatively inexpensive, not invasive and simple to use. You take it in pill form, once a day for 5 consecutive days (usually day 3-7 or day 5-9) in the beginning of your cycle. While on clomid, some people do an IUI (intrauterine insemination), while others try naturally. For all the details of how it works medically (something to do with a message it sends to your brain...) you can just type in the word "clomid" using the ivillage search engine. You should get a fully detailed explanation that way!

Good luck!
