What do you think?

Well, been part of this board for a year now.  Started TTC (at 43) last Oct. got pg. right away...baby's hb stopped at 7 weeks and I needed a D&C. (on Jan.4th)

I was under Medicare and it was covered, 4 months later (long story on why), but Medicare dropped me, suddenly and retro'd my coverage as stopped effective Dec. 31st, so after all claims were paid out, they asked doctor medical practice for money back and now medical practice is after me for the total amount of doctor service of $866!!

What a nightmare, not only do I have to suffer a loss, but now this! :smileysad::smileymad:

okay, been 'trying' to make medicare pay, with no luck, for last few months....so I talked to billing & am 'trying' to negotiate a fair price (not $866).....I will pay no more than $650 (hopefully I can work out something out, lower)

I have new medical insurance & would like to TTC & keep my doctor.....I don't know what to do? if they can't work a deal out? I don't want to give them anymore business & will have to find a new OB/GYN? or do you think I should just keep doctor anyway & just see what happens with billing? I want to pay bill & get rid of it hanging over my head, but I refuse to pay anymore that $650 (which is more than enough!)

Any thoughts? thanks!

Kiki, I  was  hoping you had this all resolved with them. It's not fair that you have to pay but with that said here's my opinion.

If you like the doctor, I would not give him/her up because of the bill. I would try to work a monthly payment plan with them or ask if  they offer a discount for full payment.  If you have no luck with the billing dept and this bill is for the dr's services alone, try to get in touch with the dr and explain. He/she could very well drop some of the charges for you- can't hurt to ask!

Wishing you the best and praying for a rainbow for you and hubby.

i'm with vickie on this. don't give up your doctor. they can work up a payment plan or talk to your doc directly and tell him/her about your situation. i bet they can work with you.

GL and KUP!

thanks....actually this bill isn't with my doctor, but another dr. who was 'on call' and could do my D&C (my doc. was out of town).....it's doctors all in the same medical practice.

My insurance is all fine now & my 2nd D&C was all covered and the rest paid for by what we owed & that was done in June.

it's just this Jan. bill & I'm dealing with lab costs (thanks Medicare, for screwing me over!)

I have a PAP already scheduled with my doc, at the end of month....so maybe just see what happens?

I think, just wait and see. And if you get the chance to mention it to your dr, he may be able to pass it on to the other dr and something could be worked out. Won't hurt to try. Don't stress yourself about it much- they have waited this long, it won't hurt them to wait a while longer.

thanks all....I've been battling with LabCorp too (had bloodwork done with 2nd pregnancy....and of course, during the time of lapse in coverage).  So, original bill is $580.....I tried to work something out with them, I paid $280, then I 'thought' the would accept a few more payments to 'even it out' at $350 and 'call it a day'.....but NOPE they want the FULL $580!! Even after I already paid $280! So, I wasn't paying a dime more, unless they settled it at $350, now I keep getting letters on how I owe $300 and they will put it in collections......I am just waiting to actually see if they will pay out money to hire a collection agency, then I will 'try' to settle it at $100.

Anyways, so far, even 'trying' to work payments out, they are NOT working with me......I haven't heard from doctor billing dept. yet.....I will call on Monday again to try to settle it.  They did say then we can work out a payment plan, that's fine, but I will not pay the full $866, even with a payment plan.....they will HAVE to settle with $650 for a max.

I've just had such bad luck with all of this mess & it's a STUPID reason 'why' I have a lapse in coverage and I can't talk to anyone in Medicare to help me.....I've even tried a few different approaches, with no luck.

And this is part of the reason I am even not TTCing anymore.....because I am paying out on all these crappy bills!!  :smileymad:

Great news today!!  I was able to settle my doctor bill (after all this negotiating & getting medicare to cover it, unsuccessfully).

They gave me a break and settled my account for $315!!  Awesome!!

So, I just paid it off and I am now free to keep & see my doctor!!  This is the happiest that I have been since all these medical bills started piling up.....I am still not out of the woods with the other bills (hospital & lab costs)....but, hopefully, that will all be resolved soon, without any further 'hits' on my credit! But, at least, I can see my doctor!!  :smileywink:

YAY for getting that done! Still sorry you had to pay out of pocket but at least you can relax a little with that debt gone. Hopefully the others will resolve that easily.
