What Should I Do?? Advice Please!

Hi ladies,

Well, AF showed up yesterday so I'm officially out this month. It's the first time in MANY months that I didn't cry when AF showed up. I was actually relieved. Here's why:

As some of you know, I have been on an intense job search since my recent layoff. I am planning on getting hired by the end of the summer. It has been my plan all the while that I would undergo my first IVF cycle in early summer so that I could be gainfully employed by the time I give birth.

Well, that plan sounds good and well but what should I do NOW? I got AF yesterday, and I'm supposed to start my IVF cycle this MONDAY. BUT I am knee-deep in an interview process right now for a job I really want. I have been called back for a THIRD interview - I made it to the final round of just me and one other person! (out of 170 applicants!) :-) It's in just over a week. But if I begin IVF MONDAY, I need to be flexible for the ER date, transfer date, etc. Plus I have no idea how the fertility injections are going to make me feel. Will I be weepy and weird?? I want to be in my top form for the interview and am afraid.

Should I delay IVF until next month?? And if I do delay it, I won't have the same flexibility in my schedule to take off for ER and ET because I am beginning a new job. If I get this particular job, my communte will be about an hour door to door. This timing SUCKS for IVF. Aaargh. I need some serious advice.

And if I DON"t get this job I will be POd that I didn't do IVF while I was unemployed and had the time.

I'm 42, clock's a tickin and I'm so confused as to what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!

Hi Brandy,

I turned 40 in February...I hate being 40! I really don't feel it but i guess my Ovaries do!

The Luveris is meant to help improve the quality of the eggs and the Cetrotide prevents me from ovulating...When i had a scan on day 5 of stims i had 4 bigger eggs and 4 that were lagging behind. My RE started me on the Cetrotide to stop me ovulating so to give my smaller eggs a chance to catch up. So i'm hoping i'll have 8 if we get to ER. Injecting 3 lots of meds isn't to bad...though the Cetrotide does sting and gets quite hot/itchy after. And i'm not looking forward to the daily IM injection of progesterone oil after ER

Thanks, Tracey. I really appreciate the info on your cycle. What is Luveris? And what is Cetrotide? Your's sounds relatively easy, med-wise, to follow! When I did my first IVF cycle in April that was cancelled, I had so much to keep track of it was INSANE. Four shots a day. Ridiculous! I should've known it wasn't working b/c I felt great and wasn't the least bit emotional -- should have been a clue! LOL! Do you know how many follies you have yet? I love reading about the good responses of others to meds b/c it keeps me encouraged! Also, do you mind me asking your age? I just turned 43 myself. Better than turning 53, I suppose! LOL!

Hi there,

Just thought i'd let you know that i'm doing an IVF cycle this month. I had a failed IUI and when i got AF i went straight to IVF. I did have a wee panic yesterday as all of sudden i felt as if i didn't know what was going on as it all happened so quickly - but i spoke with my RE and now feel better about that.

As far as the drugs go....I started on 375 gonal F and 75 Luveris...they were ok, though the Luveris does sting a bit and did bruise me. On day 5 i also went onto .25 Cetrotide. So 3 sub cut injections per evening. I'm due to have another scan on Monday and my RE thinks i will be ready for ET on Wed or Thur. Other than feeling a bit nauseas at times and a bit of Abdo discomfort i'm ok. I do feel surprisingly emotional at times - seems to come out of nowhere and i feel like shedding a few tears!

Hi Susan,
I noticed you said it took you two IVF tries. I'm getting ready next month to try IVF #2. Our first was cancelled due to a crummy response to the meds. I'm hoping this time my eight months of acupuncture will help, along with the herbs I've been taking and NOT taking bcps like I did with the one that was a bust. I am trying to remember your story... did you do IVF with your own eggs or with DE? Just curious. Am also curious as to what your protocol was if you used your own eggs? My busted cycle was the lupron micro-flare protocol, and it totally flopped for me. Thanks for the info!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your feedback. I am so appreciative.

I decided to wait a cycle before proceeding with IVF. I just had another job interview this morning, and I am glad I made the choice I made. It takes so much effort and focus for me to do these interviews and the stress and fear of IVF would be too much.

I will pick up hopefully next cycle.

I also just found out this morning that my DH is a carrier for Gaucher's Disease. So now I have to go get tested for that. So maybe it is better to wait and find out first about this genetic curveball.

Definitely don't worry about taking one cycle off....I'm 42 also and took two cycles off after my mc at the beginning of the year. I truly believe one's frame of mind is very important...so do what you feel the most relaxed about. That said, a lot of people get their BFPs when it's not the only focus for the month....

Hi Georgie!

Thank you for your support!!

Wow intersting concensus going here!

I think the thing that freaks me out about going forward this month is that I've never taken all these IVF drugs before, and I have no idea how they are going to affect me. And baby or no baby, I need to get a job before my severance pay runs out (end of the summer). If for some reason I go into this interview (and others) all messed up, emotional and panicky, I fear I will blow it. And I just want, no, need, to have a job as soon as possible.

I am wondering if I could take this cycle off, and then go in for IVF after I am settled into my new position. I could call in sick on ET/ER days....I dunno. I don't know!

Do you think one cycle wait will make a huge difference in my chanced of conceiving? I am 42 and I know they say every cycle counts. But do you think taking off one month would be a bad idea? I just want so badly to do the best thing for me and DH, and I am struggling with this decision so much.

More feedback please!!!!!!!! Thanks you guys. :)

I agree; you are one strong woman! I feel confident that you can do both things this month. But, whatever YOU decide....OMG, congrats on being down to two people out of 170 for the job you want! How about those percentages!!! Good luck with the interview and, if you decide to do it, the IVF...just a thought, it might be good to be distracted by something other than TTC....GL!!!

Thanks Vickie!
DH and I were discussing it today and we were leaning toward postponing IVF one cycle so I could really focus on getting a good job. But now that I am reading your post, I am torn. You make some really good points!!

Must sleep on it more. This is a hard one!!!!!
