My boyfriend and I have just decided that, at some point within the next five years, we would like to have a child of our own and adopt a child.

You both need thorough physicals prior to conceiving.

Hi Good luck getting all the information you need to make a good decision about ttc! This board is a great place to keep involved, because there is so much knowlegde and lots of success here. Also, there's plenty of info out on the web, I have found so much great advice for free.

I'm taking supplements, and destressing my life, getting fit and improving my diet. I also started charting my cycles on Fertility Friend. That is a great way to get in touch with what your body is doing, and to help to plan good tries for a baby.

I recently found a diet called the fertility diet, that you can google, and I just got the main points of the diets in articles for free. They say getting your proteing from plant sources is a good way to improve your chances, as well as eating a serving of full fat dairy everyday. So that would be easy for you, with your vegetarian diet. But there are other things too. One thing is simple: drinking enough water. This just helps tremendously, and in fact chronic dehyration can be a root cause of infertilty. Crazy, huh?

My main advice to you is that if I were you, I would try now. The other things in your life may be really important, so only you know if it is worth the risk to wait, but if you look at the odds, you have a much better chance at 38 than you will at 40. Really, I would do it right away! I would LOVE to be 38!

Best of luck to you, hope you at least lurk here to learn all you can from the wealth of knowledge that is here!

I agree with the others. If having a baby is something that really matters to you, seriously consider starting to try now. Most of the other stuff in life can wait, but having a baby with your own eggs gets harder and harder... Fertility drugs only help so much.

I'm super happy that I had my daughter when I did, but I wish that I started trying for baby #2 when she was 1 or 2. I had thought about it then....

Best of luck!

Hi Sara

Just in agreement with the other gals - I've just joined this board and already have children but am shocked that now I'm 40 my cycles/fertility seems to have dropped off a cliff. I conceived my last daughter at 38, delivered at 39 and here I am just 8 months post birth and I can't get a decent ovulation and I have luteal phase defect. You can never assume you are fertile or that your fertility will stay - there are a few lucky woman who are still very fertile in their 40's but for most of us, it just gets harder and harder to conceive. If you really want a baby don't wait.
