44 and want 1 more

Am I crazy? I thought I was done, I mean I am a grandma for Pete's sake. But lately, I am finding I have the urge to have another. My youngest is now 6 and just finishing kindergarten. My oldest is pregnant with her second due in July, and for a while I thought it was just baby envy, but now I don't think so. I have had 1 definite mc since my youngest was born (Trisomy 18, lost at 13.5 weeks) about 8 months after my youngest was born. I was 39 at the time. After that I put TTC out of my mind. About a year after the mc, I had another + hpt, but then got my period 2 days later, so I assume I mc'd that pg. Now here I am, 6 years later and older and NOW I want to try for 1 more. Is that crazy? Am I asking for more heartache? Am I almost certain to mc again? My cycles are still regular at 28-30 days with O on CD 15-17 and a 13 day LP. No perimenopausal signs so far. I am relatively healthy. Do not want to take any fertility drugs, just hoping for a natural conception. Any thoughts and advice are appreciated.

Welcome to the crazy club! Lol! I am 44 too and wanting another, but I don't have any grandchildren, my oldest is only 13! Once you are pregnant the odds of a healthy child are still in your favour. My youngest is 2 1/2 and I have had two unexpected pregnancies in the past year, but have lost both of them. My doctor said that puts me at a slightly higher risk of another m/c, but only because I had two in a row, not my age. The fact that I had two healthy pregnancies before that reduced my risk, but I guess I am higher again now. I am actually going in to see him tomorrow to make sure we are doing everything we can to have a healthy baby. I am currently taking my 5mg of folic acid, which I was not doing before (only taking 1mg then) plust I think he is planning to put me on clomid even though I am ovulating regularly just to make sure we have the best possible chance. I will find out for sure tomorrow.

Anyway, I don't think you are crazy, but if you are then I guess I am too! What does your DH say? Is he wanting another too? I also think you have a really good chance, but there are never any guarantees. A friend of mine just had her baby and she is 47, he is perfectly fine! I say if you want another child then go for it! I hope all goes well for you and you conceive quickly. :-)

My DH is totally on board. We have talked about this a few times this year, but then my mom had her ever so infamous pregnancy dream. Every time she has it, one of her kids, grandkids, niece/nephew turns up pregnant...EVERY TIME without fail. It is kind of creepy. Well, it just so happens that my cycle and O date coincides exactly with her dream, which got me thinking maybe I got PG last week and I just don't know it yet. I am starting to wonder though because yesterday I started having cramps around my uterus and in my low back, which is not at all typical for me, and my post O temps are through the roof, 98.8 this morning, and I never run this high. Only other time I had temps this high was when I was PG with DD.

Hi and welcome to the board! You might be the only gramma here now, but we've had them before -- and some even had babies. old? not really Crazy? aren't we all? I know I'm half nuts, for sure.

I don't have a lot of advice for you. I think if you want to go natural (and why not, if you can?) you might want to take a pre-conception vitamin (fetile aid) or perhaps Vitex and or Wheatgrass. All are said to help improve egg quality.

Good Luck on your journey. You will find good support and a lot of information here.

Good to know your DH is with you, mine took awhile to come all the way around, lol! He was "okay" with it, but I needed him to be a little more committed than just "okay". That is amazing about your mom and her dreams! Do keep us posted on what happens for you, that is exciting!

Thank you all for the welcome and wishes. Here is to hoping we all get our hearts desire.

Hey, I don't mind being the only grandma...kinda cool. Luckily for me, I look nothing like a grandma. That might be the one thing in my favor...I may be 44 but I don't look a day much over 30.

That is wonderful. May I ask how old your youngest is?
