45 YO and hoping

Just looking for a place to vent my worries. I am 45 and have a beautiful 22-y-o daughter, but I am now involved with a much younger man and hoping to conceive. I know a lot of women over 40 have given birth to healthy babies and I am hoping to be one of them soon. I know risks go up with age, but I am willing to face them and have a very positive attitude that things will be just fine. It would be wonderful to hear from other over 40 women with happy endings. I believe you can never have enough positive reinforcement.

Hello and welcome to the board! We are all very hopeful too, there is enough negative info out there about conceiving over 40, we need each other here! I turned 44 on Friday and I know I will be pg again soon! The best advice I can give is for you to go to an RE and get the batch of tests done that will find any easy to fix problems so you don't waste any time, I finally went to one after not getting pg again after my m/c last year and found a large fibroid that caused the loss and infertility. I am now in my second TTC cycle since the surgery and wish I hadn't wasted those 6 months before I went to a specialist, I was just going to a regular GYN and he had no idea. Good luck and keep us posted!

Congratulations on your soon-to-be addition! :-) Can you please tell me what herbs and supplements you used? Technology is out of reach for me also, financially, and I would REALLY LOVE to have one more baby!

Keep thinking positive and I will be thinking positive for you also! I am going to go and get my regular check-up done to make sure everything is normal. My daughter was unexpected because my cycles were never normal, so imagine my surprise when I found out I was expecting, although I knew before I ever went to the doctors. Now that I'm older, things have become regular, and I've tracking my temp and other things to make sure I'm ovulating. I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!

Okay first off I want to start off by saying I think it's absolutely essential to follow a gluten free diet for fertility - GOOGLE infertility/miscarriage and gluten and see what come sup. I was fortunate in that I had already been following one for years 100% GF never cheating because of my thyroid ( I have autoimmune thyroid disease) and the latest info coming from functional endocrinologists (a differeing faction of autoimmune specialists) really stresses this as well. My friend co authored a book with one Dr. and gave me loads of info on the reproductive link and gluten.

Second- an all organic high antioxidant diet is going to increase your fertility as well- just as sperm count (and especially male sperm count) has been reduced in past years due to pesticides so this too affects egg quality/fertility. Again I was lucky because I had grown up eating organic foods and perhaps this too gavce me an edge.Zero artificial foods of any kind, I was eat a high vegetable and fruit diet with some pastured organic protein (eegs some goat dairy and some wild fish on occasion as well as the odd piece of grass fed meat).

Refined carbohydrates and sugars- mess with hormonal balance and what you want to do is optimize your hormonal balance and enhance your fertility so completely cutting these foods out will help enhance fertility. I do suggest women undergo a series of organ cleanses as well to prep the body, clear toxins and help rebalance hormones as well.

So with the above said and done there are herbs and foods one can use but with herbs it's a pretty individual thing. What works for one woman isn't necessarily going to work for the next woman. I charted to gauge/pinpoint my ovulation always being a late in cycle ovulator. With 1 month down of charting and seeing my O was happening on day 19 I wished to optimize things and went to a fertility acupuncturist. I was already using my own herbs (and showed her) and she just gave me one more formula. The herbs and supplements I was using at the time were, fresh, powdered and frozen wheatgrass- 2-3 times daily, Fresh raw royal jelly 1 teaspoon daily, Maca, PABA, B complex, vitex first half of cycle, Evening primrose oil in first half of cycle, Dong Quai tincture in first half of cycle, L arginine in first half of cycle, grapefruit juice fresh squeezed in first half of cycle, and the month I set out to conceive I used Fertilaid- I have no idea if that worked because I only used it for that month and I did become pregnant. I also used several Chinese herbal formulas for

I also wanted to add- my midwife I used with my third child had her 6th at age 41 and her 7th at age 46 (all natural conception). Again like me she eats all organic whole foods and shuns chemicals in food/cosmetics/household.
