I started brownish spotting about 3 days before AF was due and then nothing. A week later I got some pinkish spotting but only when I wiped. Now I have the brownish spotting with cramping on the first day with this being the third day. No cramping anymore though. I am 46 and know strange things happen with your hormones as you get older. Not sure what to think about this.

Hi Bridgette, I really don't know what to tell you except that I think I would probably test just to be sure. Yes, things can get a bit whacky as you age, but I would still check. For one thing, if you are pregnant it could be a sign that you need extra progesterone which often falls with age as well. Keep us posted on how you are doing and what you decide to do, okay? Hope you get good news!

Well let's see I've had brown spotting the past three days and it's because I am pregnant. Unfortunately my beta is not rising appropriately and it looks certain it will be a m/c, but nevertheless, for me brown spotting is usually implantation spotting from pg, unless it is at the end of period. I can't speak to strange cycle changes of perimenopause, but maybe others have some experience with that.

IMHO, you really should test for heatlh reasons, even if you hate to see a BFN. What if you have an ectopic pg or missed miscarriage? It's important to rule those out. And if you are pg with a healthy embryo, shouldn't you be getting prenatal care?
