I was ovulating regularly but not getting pregnant. On cycle 4 of Clomid I got the BFP that lead to the birth of my son, Saywer (now 7 weeks old).
My progesterone was in the proper range, but on the very low side of OK. Clomid tripled it and put it into the super duper great range.
Did it increase my chances of multiples? Yes, and your doctor is not being clear if he says there is no effect... but the effect is minimal statistically.
Did I worry about it at all? No.
I must say that I have never heard of a Clomid protocol on CD1-5. CD3-7 or CD 5-9 are the only two I am familiar with.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the feedback :-)
Just to clarify, my doctor says the risk of multiples from Clomid is the same whether it's given to an anovulatory woman to stimulate ovulation, or to an ovulating woman to improve the quality of ovulation. He isn't saying there is no risk, just that the risk isn't higher in a woman who does in deed already produce an egg each month. My question is whether anyone knows of any research quantifying a potentially higher risk of multiples in ovulatory women using clmid as opposed to anovulatory.
Hope this makes sense!
