Delaying IVF?

Hello,

I would appreciate anyone's advice on my situation. After 2 miscarriages that required a D&C and more "chemical pregnancies" than I can count, DH and I have decided to try IVF. (I tried injectables this summer; no luck.) I am 44 years old and my numbers this month look pretty good... 6.3 FHS on day 3.

I'm basically set to go, waiting until day 21 to start Lupron, but in looking at the calendar, we are realizing that this is a difficult month to get started on this. Do you think it is OK to delay IVF a month, at my age? I have so many friends who say that "every month counts..." But does it? I would have much more time and energy to focus on this in December, but I know that time is running short and I certainly don't want to waste a potentially "good" cycle.

Any thoughts/ comments are welcome.

Hi,
My name is Beth, I am 40 and am waiting to see if my second IUI worked.
We will be moving to IVF in November if I am not pg.
My Re explained to me that for women in their 40's, their bodies can change very quickly. Our doc likes to do things in "threes" so our original plan was three IUI's and then onto IVF...however, we have decided that in the essence of time just to move onto IVF.
I have had good responses to Clomid, have produced mature eggs and my FSH is normal which indicates that my eggs are okay now. But my RE keeps telling me that things can change rapidly.
What does your doctor say? Have you visited the ivillage IVF board? I lurk there often just to educate myself on what may be in my future.
Take care,
Beth

Wishing you tons of luck.......as far as FSH goes, it does fluctuate but not horrificly wildly...like from 6.8 to 30 so you should be OK.

However, we did 4

Ladies, thanks to everyone who responded to my question about the wisdom of delaying the start of IVF a month. DH and I have talked this over and I asked my RE about it. RE's comment was interesting; he said not to get so caught up in one particular cycle, but to realize that it is the total number of cycles that may be involved in trying to get pregnant. In other words, he thinks it's OK if I do delay this one month until a time when I have less going on work-wise and can better focus on the procedure.... but that I (all of us) should remember that there are a finite number of cycles left in the reproductive life and that every cycle that can be used to TTC should be.

We've decided to wait until December, so I'll check back in then. I feel fine about this; I know myself and know that I will be in better shape to take on IVF when I can focus on it more fully.

Wmom, I'm just seeing this now, and want to say (if you're lurking somewhere) that I am so glad you made a decision that feels right for you.
