Great news on your numbers!

I also like the info on IVF since I'm starting my IVF cycle on Friday.

Be well and KUP on your progress.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your experience, strength and hope with us. You're right -- it doesn't matter how many kids you have or don't have . . . the desire to conceive a child is the same.

I'm so happy for you and pray that you have a H&H 9 months!

Hi Dawn,

Yes, I would encourage you to look into taking 5 mg instead of less than 1. I had always thought that you were to take 1mg when TTC, but when I got pregnant the last time I had two different doctors tell me that I should be on 5mg. For younger moms they still say 1mg, but it is 5 mg for older moms. The research I found suggested that the increased dose for older moms helped to protect the baby from various birth defects. However, it also suggested that when TTC you shouldn't be on the 5mg dose for an extended period of time, as it can mask a deficiency of a different B vitamin. So what I was doing is to take the full 5mg during the egg growing time, and also when implantation is possible, and to cut back just a bit during the less critical times. Mind you, I also found that since I have increased my folic acid I have not been as depressed as I often am, so maybe for me it is an extra good thing!

If you are unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about it. Mine actually prescribed me a prenatal that has the extra folic acid, called Preg Vit. It comes in both the 1mg and the 5mg, and you can get it over the counter, I don't think you need to have a prescription but that lowered the cost for us. Oh, and they say to be on it for only the first three months, and then to cut back to 1mg for the rest of your pregnancy.

I can understand how hard it will be to keep quiet, we kept our last one quiet for longer than any of the others. Unfortunately I did m/c, and then I ended up telling people anyway since I figured they would wonder just why I was such a basket case! My recommendation is to tell at least a couple of people you trust so that you don't explode! And besides, if the worst should happen you will have someone in RL to help you through. But hey, you aren't going to need that because this is one very sticky little bean! Yay!
