Day 5 & 6 post IVF retrieval updates:

The lab report yesterday was a bit disappointing. On day 4, I had 9 perfect embryos compacting exactly as they should have been doing on day 4.

Yesterday (day 5), 2 embryos were just cavities with no cells. 2 were still compacting and the embryologist thought this meant they were starting to fizzle. 3 were very early blastocysts (too early to grade). and 2 looked really good (one 2AA and one 3BB). [with my 1st IVF, I had 4 blasts on day 5, 1-3BB & 3-3BCs]. {they like for embryos to be developed to the blastocyst stage for transfer on day 5 for the best results so with 5 blasts I was pretty hopeful}

We want to do PGD (chromosome testing due to my age) but only the 2AA had enough cells in the trophectoderm to biopsy. So with the RE & embryologist we decided to let them all grow another day (they can grow embryos up to 7 days before they have to freeze or transfer them, although transfers usually happen on day 5) to see if we could get more to biopsy/freeze rather than do a fresh transfer. They told us that if a blast doesn't make it to freeze, it wouldn't produce a viable pregnancy and is most likely chromosomally abnormal.

This is a bit different than last time which was at a different lab & talking to a different RE. I had a similar situation last time -- 4 blasts but only one that could be biopsied on day 5. Last time, the recommendation was to go ahead with a fresh transfer of the 3 best looking blasts (which included the one they could have biopsied) instead of letting them grow another day. The one that we didn't transfer (& didn't have enough cells to biopsy on day 5) grew to day 6 and then they were able to biopsy/freeze it.

Day 6 (today):

- Sandy (44) DS (natural) born just before my 41st birthday. TTC#2. Only issue: egg/embryo quality due to age. Clomid & multiple IUIs w/follistim &menopur = BFN. IVF#1 (Nov 2011) = 12 eggs, 9 mature & fertilized. Transferred 3 embryos (1-3BB, 2-3

I don't want to open a Feb waiting to O seems like people are putting stuff here anyway. So on am 13dpo, have now had 3 high readings on my CBEFM and no peak. I was expecting a peak yesterday as the last two cycles my pattern was high, peak, peak, high. I guess I will take this as a good sign...for now. It could be bad, it could mean I never peaked or it could mean my window is larger which means I really need to find more energy in the evenings... last night I forgot all about that I should BD... and then he was asleep by the time I did think of it. I am just hoping that my cycle is long this month so that we still haven't O'd by next week on vacation when all rested and we will have plenty of opportunities that we take advantage of :) Definately have BD on the agenda for tonight being V day and all :) Happy Valentines day my friends :)

Hi, all:

I don't even know the abbreviations yet. DH (34) and I (41) are trying for our first baby. We have been married 10 years! Have been trying naturally for about a year and just started my first cycle of Clomid combined with IUI last week. DH is very excited about prospect of baby, I'm less optimistic. I'm on CD 23.

I've always ovulated normally and regularly, my hormone levels are pretty good -- the only negative is that my anti-Mullerian is 1.1 which my doc considers borderline. So far no physical reason (other than age) why I can't get knocked up. Would have started earlier but had two small strokes a little over a year ago and am now on anti-coagulant (Lovenox and doesn't cross placenta, but two shots a day, bleah!) and doctors talked me into waiting a year. They wanted me not to get pregnant, but I told them it's my life and they don't have the right to tell me I can't have a child.

So far, it's harder than I thought and both my parents came from such fertile families (six and seven children respectively.) I'm just hoping for the one. I'd love twins, though!

Anyway, I'll know if I'm pregnant next week -- basically if my period shows up or not. Good luck to all.

Welcome C. Glad to have you here with us. Wishing you all the best and hoping you have great news to share in a week or so. I'll go and bump the abbreviation post to the top of the list for you. Keep us posted
