Got my FSH results - what do they mean?

I am the 47 year old trying to conceive and had an oopsie baby "naturally" at 45. Took an FSH and estriodol blood test yesterday. My OB's asst. just called gave me the results from the FSH. It is 3.6. Not sure what that means ??? HELP !
I asked the asst. but all she said was, "the Dr. wants you to use contraception b/c you can still get pregnant with that level". So, I proceeded to ask her what is a "high" level and what is a "low" level. She said she didn't know. Then, she said, "anything under 40 is considered to be able to still get pregnant." Ugh !!
Can anyone break this down for me? I am confused. Haha!! Thanks.

My first post on here kind of explained why my OB would say, "If you don't want to get pregnant, you need to be on b/c". She doesn't agree with me trying to get pregnant. She didn't agree with me having my son when I was 45.
IF I were to ever get pregnant again, she has already said she would not take my case. (Thank you for small favors !!). I made an appt. for a Fertility Specialist on the 26th of this month. I want to do nothing invasive. We will see what he says.
You ladies know a lot about this subject matter. I know NOTHING. We have been trying diligently during the "fertility peaks", but nothing. Does anyone know how it can be possible that I have a 3.6 FSH level, had a baby "naturally" at 45 and IT is not taking this time ???
I have regular 29-30 day cycles and never skip one. Just like all my life. But, can they give you a test to determine the quality of the eggs? Maybe I have a decent amt. left, but they are all hard boiled....

FSH levels are only part of the picture. What you really want to know if your AMH level. I had an FSH level of 3.3 (wow! low!) but nothing happened now for 1+ year. Went to a specialist. The new test, AMH levels, tests the level of actual cells from the baby eggs -- not the FSH hormone your brain is signaling to send to your baby eggs. So, after I got my AMH level tested, I found out I, indeed, did have a diminished ovarian reserve.
So, moral of the story is if you want to try, get the AMH level tested.
hope that helps,
martha
Thanks for the info. Martha ! I am indeed going to a Fertility Specialist on the 26th. So, we will see what he says. I am not hell bent on having a child. If it is just something as simple as tweaking this or that, then OK. But, I don't really want to do anything invasive. I had never heard of AMH Levels. So, you can see that I am so GREEN and NEW to all of this.
Thanks again sweetie,
