Hi everyone,

I've posted here off an on since I turned 40, but I don't think I ever really introduced myself. So I guiess a intro is past due...here goes...My name is Jenna, and I'm now 41. I have been TTC my first child with my DH since we got married a little over 3 years ago. We have serious male factor infertility issues, and have no evidence that my Dh's sperm can fertilize an egg without IVF/ICSI. We've done 4 of those, plus many IUI's...and all has bee 100% out of pocket. New tests have shown that up to 40% of the small percentage of DH's sperm that looks good enough to select for ICSI is actually chromosomally abnormal, a condition called sperm aneuploidy. This, combined with my age, and a fibroid that was changing the shape of my uterus (finally removed in late July of this year), most likely comprise the factors why we have lost at least 5 pregnancies (all acheived with treatment cycles) since we started. IVF #3 gave us twins, which we thought would work out, but I lost one at 10-11 weeks (found out at 12 weeks), and the other at 16 weeks. We had PROM with the second twin, which it turns out had T21. We don't know if the first twin was chromosomally normal or not, at the time of the first twin's loss we were told it was vanishing twin syndrome.

Anyway, my RE is still optimistic that we can get successfully pg with my eggs if we keep trying, though we are running out of money. So with our history, my RE is letting me do donor sperm IUI with a IVF protocol of stims...meaning I stim for as many eggs as most would produce in IVF, but I do IUI. They may not be of great quality anymore, but I do still have a very high ovarian reserve, so hopefully I should have a few good ones in there. This cycle I had 10 follies 16mm and above which should be mature, plus another 8 right at 15-15.5 which may be mature. I didn't even ask how many smaller ones- there were a bunch.

I am optimistic about this cycle! I had lots of EWCM in the follicular phase this time, which is what I've had on the cycles that were BFP. Plus I had the fibroid removed, which may have been a factor in my many m/c's, or in implantation failure. And we used frozen donor sperm. I know it can be harder to get pg with frozen donor sperm as it is not as potent, it took 2 vials to get even 13 million motile, but at least it should be chromosomally normal so if they can manage to penetrate an egg, hopefully not predisposed to m/c on the paternal end.

I'm now 5days past my IUI. Still feeling abdominal pain from the very swollen ovaries, but I think my fluid regulation is still Ok (meaning not OHSS). If eggs were fertilized and are still developing, hopefully I should have a blastocyst or two in my uterus today. I am keeping my fingers crossed this works. We are on the waiting list for donor embryo, but are probably about 6 months away from any coming up for us, so we're trying with my eggs as much as we can afford til then.

Wishing all of you ladies GL with your cycles!-Jenna, 41, DH 38 TTC our first since September '06 with MFI.

Oh Jenna I hope those Beta #'s are great and I'm being completely honest about my sticks NEVER getting the 2nd darker line w/ Alec.

I wouldn't stress too much about it not being any darker, mine weren't very dark until I was right at 14 DPO. And feeling nauseous is a good thing! Looking forward to hearing your beta numbers, I am sure they will be great!

Thanks! Beta was positive but only...get this...8 at 14dpiui. Not a great sign. I repeat the beta tomorrow and get results on Tuesday. More beta limbo for me.

My line was a bit darker today on HPT (15dpiui) and CBE digital test finally says pregnant (said not pregnant at 14dpiui and before, even though I had lines on FRERs)

I just hope this is not an ectopic. I'm pretty worried about that right now. Please send me in-the-right-place vibes! Thanks ladies for the support!

Glad you posted, I was thinking about you and wondering how things were going! I can understand your concern, but how could you even have a faint line if it were only 8? I think the most sensitive test needs a level of 25 to be positive. Interesting. I think it is a very good sign that the line is darker today, hopefully things keep going the right direction.

Please don't worry too much about ectopic, do you have any risk factors for it? I am really hoping that this is not the case, they are no fun. Btdt, hope you don't have to go through all of that. I am hoping your next beta goes well, keep us posted. (((Hugs)))

I have been using FRER's. Published sensitivities are MINIMUM sensivities. However many tests can pick up much lower numbers than those published minimums, especially if you use concentrated urine. I got my first faint pos at 12 dpo, so if it was doubling in 48 hours, that would have been an hcg of only 4 at that time!

I do have risk factors for ectopic, I underwent treatment with fsh drugs (menopur, follistim) which is a risk factor. In addition, my pregnancy after IVF #2 was a suspected ectopic. We still don't know for sure if it was ectopic or not, they never saw anything in uterus and there was fluid detected on u/s in the abdominal cavity but I chose monitoring just in case there was any chance of viability, and numbers eventually fell to 0 on their own. I never had another HSG after that either, so if it was ectopic, I could have damage in that tube.

My line is darker today...going in for another beta now. Won't get results til tomorrow though.

Oh Jenna, I am so hopeful for you! I can certainly understand your worry of an ectopic, didn't realize those things increased the risk. I am at a slightly higher risk simply because of having one already. I lost both my tube and ovary with that one, so it is only a slightly higher risk, but still something I worry about too.

I realize those are the published minimums, but I have to wonder if they got your results mixed up with someone else, seems impossible to me that a level of 4 could possibly show up at all! I guess it doesn't really matter, as long as all is going well now and keeps going well. :-) A little over a year ago I had a very early m/c, and when they did the blood work it showed at 15, yet did not show as positive on the test in the office earlier the same day. Mind you, all tests are different in what they will pick up. I can't wait to hear your results tomorrow, you must be going crazy with waiting!

Thanks Michelle for the support. Unfortunately my beta only rose 50% to 12. I'd be freaking about ectopic were it not for my trusty FRER's, which were noticeable lighter today, so I think the embryo already died. I am stopping progesterone. I repeat beta tomorrow to make sure it it going down, and will need to follow until it is negative.

I'm sad the pg will not be viable but I've been through much worse. Relieved that it looks like it won't be ectopic.
