Hi,
i
I am 42 and recently had my second miscarriage. I had my first in 2003 and then had my beautiful son. and the 2nd miscarriage about 5 months ago. My question is, has anyone had to use heparin during pregnancy? I had to use progesterone and baby aspirin during my preg. w/son. Both times w/ the miscarriages the babies were fine, no abnormalities. I spoke with the nurse and dr and they seem to act like this is not too bad that i will be fine if I take shots of heparin if I get pregnant (also progesterone and aspirin again) Im worried about excessive bleeding, etc. any advise or comments would help
thanks

I was sorry to read about your m/c's..

I do not post to this board anymore but do drop in time to time just to read. I read your post and wanted to give you some insight on when I was on heprin.

I had to be on heprin whenever I was ttc after I was diagnoised with a problem. I had multiple m/cs and they found what was happening was I was developing blood clots within the umbilical cord. The heprin was used to thin my blood out so these clots would not happen. I had to be closely monitored when on the heprin and had to go in for blood test and these results where monitored by my re. I also carried something in my wallet that stated that I was on heprin and the doses I was on in case of an emergency. From the way I was monitored I just wouldn't go on heprin unless the doctors where monitoring me.

You mentioned that you would take the shots if you get pg. With me I had to start the shots as soon as any procedure was done (I had iui's and ivf). This was to get the heprin in my system and get it working before things had time to start developing.

I wish I could remember the doses of heprin I was on but I do remember that I had to give myself shots twice daily and I was considered to be on a high dose. I did these shots along with the low dose aspirin and progesterone shots. Boy did I feel like a pin cushion.

I'll be sending you lots of baby dust

Thanks for your support & baby dust.
I think the dose is 1000 twice a day if i get pg. I dont seem to have a problem getting pg just staying that way. Everything I've read looks somewhat positive. Just a little scared, but I guess you cant really control anything when it comes to this kind of stuff. I just have a lot of faith that I'll have another great baby if Im supposed to and Im extremly happy with the little boy I already have. Wish me luck & thanks again!
