Hello Ladies, I am 42 years old, with two adult children ages 21 and 22 yrs. old. For the past 15 years or so, I've been wanting to have another child and still would like very much to be pregnant. A fertiity doctor informed me if I have not gotten pregnant after having my last child while using unprotected sex there is a good chance that I may not be able to get pregnant on my own. To be honest, we can not afford a fertiity specialist as we would like to use he/ or she as our last resort. Would anybody like to share any suggestions? Thank you!

Welcome! One thing to try is to track ovulation signs so you can get a feel for what your cycle is doing. There are several ways you can do this, some members will track it using more than one method. Here is a article explaining some of the systems you can try:

Here is also an article on boosting your fertility you might find useful:

They also have some over the counter fertility tests can you take. There are flaws with them, but it might give you an idea on how you stand fertility-wise.

Do you tend to have regular cycles?

Hi Melissa, thank you for your response. Yes my cycles are pretty reg., they consistently run every 25-26 days depending on the calendar. I do not know if I'll be able to get pregnant on my own because over the past year I ran several ovulation tests probably more than 10 and each test resulted in a negative result. Thanks again for your support, I will look into these sites then take further steps! Have a blessed day!

Welcome to the boards. My RE told me that since my Husband "knocked" me up at 37 and 38 that there should be no medical reason that we couldn't get pregnant again. Well, it is one yr later and no luck yet. Fertility Drs don't know everything. Since you have not conceived in the lates 15 years there are several test you should have done before deciding what to do.

First you should have a HSG test done. A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an X-ray test that examines the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes and the surrounding area . This is to look for blockages of the tubes, scar tissue, polyps, etc.

Second, you should do cycle day (CD) 3

Hi Pam and welcome! I agree with Melissa and Mel's advice. Have testing done to see where you stand and if all looks good, start charting and track your cycles. Wishing you all the best and hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi Mel: Thank you. It has been 21 years since I last conceived. My youngest child is 21 yrs old. What is an RE? You spoke alot of technical medical jargon inwhich I only have few knowledge of.What's a good Basal score? So does basal scores rely on high bodily temperature? You see I am not sexually active because I do want to conserve my body for a future husband. So the last time that I indulged intercourse, around 2 yrs ago. I am not very active. I have no STD's as I do have myself checked out annually. But I will review all of your helpful tips, with my midwife, at my next visit. Again I say thank you.
