Flossy, Good luck to you. It's hard to let life lead you but you probably already know were never meant to have a baby with that first guy. Some people will say if it is meant to be, it will happen. And while I sort of agree that is not to say that I don't recommend doing everything in ones power to help the situation! :) So, as Brandy said and I totally agree...please DO get an RE appointment for as soon as possible. You really need no other reason other than your age. Not months of trying on your own not any of those things. There are a lot of fits and starts in this process. It takes time that you don't want to waste. Go, go, go...and be sure to lean on us every step of the way!

Hey there,
I don't post here often -- did quite a bit b/f the new format. However, I wanted to send you a quick note not to give up hope! I was VERY overweight when I got preggers at 40 myself. We were slow to join the baby-making game after eight years of marriage, but when we finally decided it was time, it took us a year of trying with no successful pregnancy. I went to a fabulous RE, had the bloodwork done and the basic testing done to rule out any problems. Wellllll, little did I know, I wasn't regularly ovulating (thougth I was -- got positives on the ovulation predictor kids) AND I had a very small uterine polyp, which could've prevented me from ever getting pregnant had I not known. Had that removed, took two months off to heal, then we did clomid with an IUI. I got pregnant on our second cycle, and I gave birth to a perfectly healthy and precious baby boy at the ripe old age of 41. All I can say is DON'T WAIT. I would start testing now so IF there is a problem, it can be corrected now. And once you're hitched, I really wouldn't waste time. I wouldn't waste time with an ob-gyn, and I wouldn't waste time thinking you can try for a few months on your own. Seriously. Don't worry so much about the risks, etc., for chromosomal abnormalities. I did and robbed myself of the joy of the first trimester. In the end, when my doc did all of the testing on me (towards the end of my first trimester), I had a 1 in 600 chance of having a DS baby. He was so confident all was fine that I never did an amnio or CVS. So even though the charts say your odds are 1 in 100, you never really know until you're preggers, and every pregnancy is different. And it's still SO RARE b/c eggs with chromosomal abnormalities almost always miscarry or never implant anyways. Not to say it doesn't happen, but, healthy babies are still born every day to older women. Just do what you can between now and the wedding to get the weight off...even a 5% reduction can have a DRAMATIC effect on your fertility. Start exercising because there are huge benefits in TTC. Also start drinking a ton of water and taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acide NOW. Keep us posted!

Hi there,

I am new to this site but thought I would add my thoughts, and hope you do not get disheartened.

I started trying for a baby at 40. I got quite disheartened as there is lots of information around (especially on the internet) about how difficult it is to get pregnant over 40.

Hi flossy!

Your post sounded all too familiar to me. I could have written most of it myself!! I was married to a great guy for 12 years, but never had any kids together. We D'd in 2005 and I thought that my dreams of becoming a mother would never happen. I finally found a great guy (after a few years of healing) in 2007 at the age of 38....but of course it took a couple years to get the R into a totally stable, marriage-potential state.....we M in 2009 and started TTC 6 months later. He is the best guy but I was 41 when we started TTC our first baby. And it has taken a long time. I finally JUST found out I am PG for the first time a few days ago--4 months shy of my 42nd Bday. I pray the bb sticks and all goes well.

I'm about to get ready to go to work so I don't have much time but I wanted to let you know that your reply has made my day!! Both of you have made me feel renewed and like my dream really can come true. I'm going to talk to my fiance tonight about going to the dr, and getting the process underway now. That advice sounds so good!!!
Thank you both so much!!! :)
