HPT is neg., but AF hasn't arrived

Hey all,

I had a miscarriage a couple months ago, then had a perfectly normal period, and then tried to conceive after ovulating.

Today is Day 30 for me. Normally I get my period on Day 28. I have had ALL negative pregnancy tests so far this weekend, but my period hasn't started yet either. I've never experienced this before. In the past, either I get my period around Day 28...or I get a positive on the home pregnancy test. I'm not sure what's going on. Have any of you experienced anything similar?

I am wondering if the Prometrium (progesterone) tablets I am taking could be causing my period to be delayed. I know that I'm supposed to STOP taking the pills when my period starts...but I also remember one of my doctors telling me that taking the pills might delay your period until you stop taking them. I've never had to deal with that before 'cause it never happened...Maybe there's a first for everything and it's happening now?

My doctor is away on vacation...so if my period hasn't started by tomorrow and I get another negative, maybe I'll see if her office can still schedule a blood test for me. I don't want to stop taking the Prometrium until it's confirmed that I'm NOT pregnant. Just in case.

Thanks all! I'd love to hear from anyone who's experienced anything even remotely like this!

I'm using progesterone suppositories and they have lengthened my luteal phase. Some months it's longer than others. Before the progesterone, I always started af exactly 14 days after O. It seems to be getting later lately. Last month it was 18 days. My doc said that I probably wouldn't get af until I stopped the progesterone, but that hasn't been the case for me. I usually start spotting for about 2 days and then af starts on the third. It's frustrating for me too, because I don't want to stop the progesterone until I'm sure I'm not pg. Someone on another board who was using prometrium said her doc told her to keep on it for a week if af was late, and then if a pg test is neg to stop. I imagine if you've started spotting (as you said in your other post), you'll probably see af within a few days. It's still possible you're pg, but for me once I see spotting, af is on its way.

Hi Desiree,

Thanks for your response. I think you're right. Spotting for me usually is a sign that more blood will follow. (Sorry to be gross!) I'm also getting some cramping now so that's a sign as well. I know that a little spotting isn't abnormal when you're initially pregnant...but, you also get a positive on the HPT then. I have only gotten negs so far so I think I will wait a couple more days--and if AF hasn't arrived by then, I'll get a blood test (if possible) to confirm I'm not pregnant.

The weird thing is, I've been on Prometrium before and I remember a while back when I was about to leave for vacation, my doctor's nurse told me that I could delay my period by staying on the Prometrium until I returned home. And of course, that didn't work and I got my period on vacation right on Day 28, just like always! But now that I don't want to delay my period (unless I'm pregnant, I mean!), it appears to be delayed! LOL! What can you do?

I actually thought I might be pregnant this time 'cause it felt like I was. While I'm not heartbroken, I am disappointed. BUT, I figure that just means it'll be time to try again and it could work out then. Who knows? It's all such a crap shoot sometimes.

Chin up, girls! It'll be a great year regardless!

My doctor did blood work today and confirmed that I am not pregnant. :-( Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

I'm in the same boat - spotting is getting more. Hopefully next month.

OK, I had my pity party and now I'm back to thinking optimistically! :-) Onwards! Maybe we'll get pregnant around the same time and can move over to the Pregnant After 40 board! Positive thoughts!

Ha ha! :-)

Don't get me wrong Emily! I had a crying jag a couple nights ago and was pretty depressed. I was heaving and had huge crocodile tears. In retrospect, I was so melodramatic about it, too! :-)

But, it felt good to get it out of my system. Even though crying doesn't solve anything, it sometimes just feels good. When I was crying, I knew I'd be getting my period 'cause it was that kind of hormonal -- like that kind that makes you cry...

Oh well...

OK, so now I am on CD18 of this month's cycle. I ovulated early (I think) around CD8 or CD9. Got one BD in and then the husband and I both got the colds from hell and are still recuperating from that. So only one BD instead of our usual every other day from days 9 to 17.

Anyhow, I had so much mucus today that I thought I might actually be ovulating today...so I took a OPK test today and it was negative. But (TMI alert) I need to wear a pantyliner as my undies had dried white substance on them from my mucus. Since I'm not ovulating, what the heck is all this about? I don't think it's escaped sperm, since that would've been 10 days ago! Surely anything that was trying to escape would've exited by then, what with all my running, showering, peeing on sticks etc. :-)

My left fallopian tube area feels a little twingey. Have no idea what that's all about either.

If I don't get a period in the next 10 or 12 days, I will take a HPT to see if I'm pregnant. While I know that it only takes one time to get lucky, it never works that way for us so I don't think I'm pregnant. I just wish I could figure out what happened to my ovulation this month...

Aren't you all bored to tears now?!!!

I have those mystery months too sometimes, when I just cannot figure out what the HECK is going on.
