Just starting at 43 and terrified

Hi, turned 43 a month ago. In two weeks I meet with a Reproductive Endocrinologist for the first time. Am I wasting my time with this? I know I waited too long - I'm not sure how age crept up so fast, but it did. Now I'm confronting all the obstacles I'd always feared. A bit of history is that my husband is 8 years younger than me, and although we've been together for many years, we needed to get to a place where we were financially stable enough to even attempt any of this (baby, fertility, etc.). And now that we're in a place where we could actually have a child, I'm worried that my chances are completely over. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm not looking for sugar coating - just a real straight explaination of what I'm up against and potentially in for. I thought I'd seen that there were a lot of women having babies at my age, but now I can't seem to find anything on the web except bad news... and I haven't seen any info on women my age having babies with their own eggs. On the other hand, I'm going to be seeing one of the best doctors out there, but I'm also scared that he'll tell me to go home and forget it. Many thanks for any advice; Leslie

Hi, Leslie.

I just turned 43 last month, too. My DH and I have been TTC my #1 (his #3) for almost two years. He had a vasectomy reversal done, and I've been seeing an RE for almost a year and went through two cycles of IVF at one of the country's top clinics. Both cycles were canceled due to poor response, so

Hi, I had my first child at 41 a beautiful boy who is now 3 and the joy of my life. I got pregnant naturally and it wasn't a hard pregnancy since i'm also overweight. I've been trying to conceive again for 2 years without success but i'm not ready to give up yet even though i'll be 45 next month. I'm going to try a ovulation predictor kit this month see if that helps. My husband is 6 years younger than me and I know he would like another child too so we'll keep trying. Robin

Hi Robin,

Thank you. I am so glad to hear from you. Your first pregnant went well,Wow! I hope mine goes to the same direction as yours. So far, I have not had much symptoms. Yesterday, I woke up with a litle bit of headache, then it disappeared. I have not had any morning sickness yet. They said it might come later or might not. It depends on an individual. Today I have more energy than any other day eventhough, I didn't sleep much at all because I woke up at night to pee at 1:00 am and didn't go to sleep until 2 or 3 am. I was surprised and concerned at the same time. I didn't check my temp yet to see if it is still high. I am in my ideal weight and considered myself healthy. My appointment with a Nurse on Nov 23 and with Doctor on Nov 29. I keep my emotional at neutal until I am out of the wood. I have not told anyone in the family yet except my husband. Thank you again and I wish you luck with your second child. For me, I just want one. If my wish came through, I would be so happy.

Here is a bit of encouragement - my grandmother had 13 kids, the last being my mom when she was 48. That was in 1945 - waaaaay before fertility drugs and doctors. My grandma just did the old-fashioned way with my grandfather.

So, you just never know when or where the stork will drop in.

Hi Leslie,

I had a baby girl 6 weeks ago at 43 - she is my fourth child. All were conceived naturally.
Of course age plays a role in being fertile, but age 43 doesn't mean there have to be problems getting pregnant. My cycle has always been at 28 days exact and getting pregnant went real quick each time.
Just live a normal life without getting too set on becoming pregnant. The body might be too stressed to let it happen then.

Good luck and keep on trying

Hugs and Well Wishes to you moonamoon. I am turning 44 in January and have had to wait too long myself for all of the same reasons. I did get pregnant 2 years ago but had a blighted ovum, sadly enough, I was SO excited! So now we start again this month. I'll be watching your posts.
