Just turned 40 and want a baby!! Any success stories?

Welcome to the board. 40 is not too old to have children. It sounds like your first RE was a money grubbing jerk. There are REs out there who go straight to donor eggs because one it makes them more money and two increases there sucsess rate. That does not mean you can't get pregnant on your own. My RE told me that after 40, you have a 10-15% chance of getting pregnant every month if you are ovulating and your husband (DH) has a good sperm count. IUI and IVF (your own eggs or donor) increases that to 15-20%. Not much of an increase for all that out of pocket money since most insurance does not cover fertility treatments. I am assuming that your old RE did a CD3 FSH, AMH, prolactin and estrodial. If you post those values that can give us some idea where you are at. Other tests he should have done are a dpo 7 progesterone, to make sure you are ovulating and a HSG to make sure your tubes are open. He should have also done a sperm analysis on your DH make sure he does not have a problem. If DHs sperm comes back fine and your tubes are open and you are ovulating, then the most important thing to do is have well timed intercourse. You can do that with BBT and OPKs. BDing on CD14 may not do it as you may be ovulating earlier or later and missing the egg. TTC after 40 can be a challenge but that does not mean that you can not get pregnant. Find an RE you like and do what you can. Nobody can give you a guarenty, but without more info, nobody can tell you that you can't get pregnant on your own. Good luck. Mel

Hello and sorry to hear about the news and yeah the docs..wow. I personally have yet to conceive. I am 44 and we have only tried one month. Looking fwd to this month. I have not had any testing but when I went to a prepregnancy consult with my Dr. He did not act negative to me..just stated that at my age I do need to "get" there first..give it some time..then poss getg more aggressive and do some testing (i think my estrogen and his sperm count..not sure) We will see if it happens naturally. I am not going to pursue it as far as invitro or anything but again I have 4 other children. I do sympathize with you..and wish you the best!!
