Hi, I am new here. My husband and I have been married 9 years. We tried unsuccessfully to get pregnant for over three years, had initial fertility testing done and no actual fertility problems were found. In stead of going through all the traditional fertility gamit we decided to adopt. After two years we adopted an older child. She is a special needs child and has a multitude of issues (12 yrs old with mental health issues as well as major abuse issues) some of which may make the adoption ultimately disrupt.. I am 40, my husband is 53 with a multiple list of health problems. We have decided to give conception one last try. Is there anyone out there who can share any hope or suggestions to make this successful. I am healthy with regular cycle but am considered obese. My husband has diabetes, high blood pressure and has some problems due to medications of impotence. Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to the board!!! Glad you found us!!! There have been many women in our age group that have found success with Acupuncture & traditional chinese medicine. In my case it has helped my DH with his sperm count & motility as well. He is also drinking a lot of grape juice & taking a supplement called Proxeed. I am wondering in your case because of the issues with your DH if you are maybe having some problems there. When we first went for fertility testing the DR. said DH was fine. Then we went to an RE, had 2 IUI's & found out he was not fine but had a only 1% morphology & low counts & motility. We had to go to IVF/ICSI.

With the Acup & supplements he is taking now his #'s have gone up quite a bit with the exception of mophology, but we still have a lot more to work with then we did before. There is also a test called SCSA that looks for DNA fragmentation in the sperm. If the meds are giving him trouble @ the time when you are ovulating there is a procedure where they can take the sperm out of him but this would involve you doing IVF. He could also give a sample & have it frozen & you can try IUI as well. This way you won't have to worry about the possibility of missing the timing when you ovualte.

Hope this helps!!!
