Never Too Old To Try?

Hello all,

It feels weird to be back here at iVillage, as I was here a mere 15 years ago when I was happily posting in one of the Expecting Clubs. Fast forward through a few life changes, a 14-year old son, and here I am once again.

My name is Lisa, and I am 44 years young. As happens often to many of us, I have met the man of my dreams, and we would love to be able to bring a child into this world. He is 45, and has no children of his own.

We have already begun the pre-testing for IUI, and I have had all the labs drawn. FSH/Estradiol levels are borderline, and AMH is dismal at best. LOL...my Repro doc is fantastic, though, and encouraged me to take DHEA, which I am, along with cutting out all caffeine (as a nurse, this is like chopping off a limb), and alcohol. I have no pre-existing medical conditions, maintain a healthy weight, practice yoga 4-5 times per week, and feel like our chances may be decent. No issues for my man, as his sperm count is absolutely fine, motility > 95% and all looks good for him. My first baby was born via induction at 39.5 weeks, and I had a vaginal delivery. All systems go.

I have to undergo a hysterosalpingosonography to make sure that my fallopian tubes are still open, and then I'll attend my class on proper technique for fertility drug injection next week. After that, we are ready to rock and roll.

I'm nervous, I'm a bit scared, and more than overwhelmed by the regimen. As a nurse, I always struggle when I am the patient! Anyone have any tips for injections, or IUI in general?

On another note, I had my Mirena removed last December, had a 30-day cycle, then a 32- day cycle, and now on Day 25, I began to spot, and now I'm bleeding. I am puzzled, as my usual period symptoms are not present, most commonly tender breasts. I wondered about implantation bleeding, but I don't know. My body is most likely confused. Wink

Anyway, it's nice to be back, and I look forward to chatting with you all!

Hi Lisa, it's great to have you back!  Congratulations on finding a wonderful man to share your life with :)  It does sound like your body is still adjusting to being off of birth control, hopefully it will settle down soon.  I'm so glad that you have a supportive doctor, good luck!
