I recently turned 40 and have been ttc for about a year. I have two children, ages 13 and 10, from a previous marriage. My DH doesn't have any children. I went to my ob/gyn in January, and she did some tests to find out if I am perimenopausal or menopausal . . . results were normal. She wants my DH to get tested before she tries Clomid. He doesn't have a problem doing this, we just have to get the timing right for that.


Meanwhile, I started charting my BBT. I have very long cycles. I

Good luck with TTC. You might also ask about supplemental progesterone for the luteal phase. On the no-prescription front, you could try taking B-6, which can extend the luteal phase by a day or 2 in some women (which still probably won't be enough for you). I would also get a progesterone test at 7DPO, and take OPK's next cycle to help pinpoint O date. Charting is not always that accurate, so I wouldn't assume you neccessarily have a luteal phase defect based solely on 1 month's worth of charting.

I agree that bbt charting is not the be-all and end-all of finding out your one schedule.

Thanks for the advice. I actually didn't ask my GP about Clomid. I told her that I am TTC. She told me to relax. I have an OPK that I will be using soon. I have used them in the past with no success because my cycle is so long. That's the reason I started charting in the first place. I plan to chart and use OPK's for the next few months. He will get tested too. From there, we will decide whether or not to continue. While we do want to have a baby, we don't want to stress about it too much.
