I'm new to this board...I turned 40 earlier this year.
Welcome, sister. The one thing to keep in mind is that PG and childbirth have risks at any age. SOme risks increase with age, but most do not. The biggest risk at 40 is that it is just more difficult to get PG. Not for everyone, but fertility does decline, so it might take some time (then again, lots of over 40s have gotten PG the first time they DTD w/o birth control).
Once you turn 40, they do offer a multitude of testing and genetic counselling if you choose to take advantage of that. You will find the women here will be a great source of information. If you are ready, I say go for it and good luck.
