Hello ladies,
I hope I find support here. Over the last 10 years, I've found support on many of the TTC boards as DH and I struggled with infertility. We've had 2 m/c and now have 2 beautiful dds conceived through medicated IUIs. Alicia was born at 37 weeks and is now 4 years old. Sarah was born at 34 weeks (spent 2 weeks in NICU) and is now 9 months (7.5 adjusted). We are truly blessed. Although both babies had severe reflux, they are healthy. I send out prayers and pg dust to all you ladies who are trying to conceive, especially those TTC#1. Alicia was born when I was 37 and Sarah when I was 40. Both pregnancies were extremely difficult for me with bleeding throughout and severe morning sickness. Despite the challenges, DH and I would love a 3rd. A boy would be incredible, but another girl would be special too. We just finished our blood tests. DH has to do his sperm tests. If everything is OK in 5 weeks, we can start the fertility process yet again. 3 out of 4 tries resulted in a conception (1 blighted ovum). This is an amazing success rate.
Two of my fears is having another premature baby and worrying about having a healthy baby. I had an amnio with Sarah and I cried throughout the procedure. Thankfully, everything was fine.
We won't be telling anyone that we are TTCing again as we know most people will not support our choice. We are both healthy and kids at heart. We will give our children a wonderful life. We live in Ontario, Canada. I'm currently on maternity leave until January 22.
Waving hello to all!

Lora,

I am ttc #4 at 45. I have 3 ds and a grandson. DH and I are young at heart also, everyone believes we are younger than we claim and there is no way we have boys as old as ours and a gbaby. So needless to say we will not be telling any of the family that we are ttc. Hah! my mom would bust her gut and my siblings would call me stupid, so we are just keeping this between dh and I and my boys. I know out of everything I try to ttc I will need a miracle from God nonetheless. So here's my prayer to you and yours and lots of baby dust to you too.

Hi Emily,

In Canada, you do get 1 year of maternity/paternity leave and during this time, you receive employment insurance from the government which is determined based on your last year's salary with a cap at approximately $700 every 2 weeks. A job with the same salary is guaranteed, but the same position is not guaranteed. Since it's difficult for employers when you leave for a year, most will fill your position with a permanent worker from within the company and then you will be assigned a new position when you return. This is great if you weren't too happy in your current position, but disappointing if you really liked your position. Sometimes, an employer will use a temporary worker in your absence, especially smaller companies and then you return to the same position.

Whether or not you receive any salary from your company in addition to the employment insurance differs by company. My company gives 6 weeks full pay less all your deductions. I know other companies who give up to 6 months full pay. My husband's company gives full pay. I can't remember how many months of the 12 the husband can take, but I think it might be around 4 months. This gives you the option of splitting the leave. You can't both be off and receiving the employment insurance at the same time. The insurance is only paid to one person. Since my husband's company pays him full salary, he wanted to take some of the leave, but after going through all the fertility treatments and dealing with a very sick baby for so many months (reflux), I really feel I deserve this time with Sarah so I'm taking the full year myself even though financially, it would have been better to split the leave.

I am truly grateful that we have this opportunity to spend the first year of our baby's life together.
Canadians pay A LOT of tax, but this is one benefit I'm very happy to have!

Thank you, I appreciate it.

It's been rough...but I am slowly feeling more like myself.
