Hello my name is Kelly and as I stated a little overwhelmed with all the acronyms (but i found and went over...i try to remember) but mostly overwhelmed with ttc at age 44. I have been reading up on the whole O timing and realize now that wm or fluid is only getting you ready to O and that I will O on the most wet day??? I am really confused. AF came yesterday. A small history of myself.. I am regular on my cycle *30 days. I have never had to pay attn to any of this O stuff and ttc because in my 20/30s I was so fertile I didnt have to. Well..I have found my soul mate..as of a yr and half together now and we want our family now. I need a mentor or someone to give me advise ... I definately do not want to stress over this because I know that can destroy our plans so I hope someone responds!! Looking fwd to making new friends. Thank you.

Kelly, Welcome to the baord. TTC after 40 can be confusing, but if you are still here in a month, all this stuff will seem like old hat. Fertile mucus is only a sign that you are fertile. It is caused by the drop in estrogen before ovulation, but its present does not mean you will ovulate. OPKs can better predict ovulation by detecting the rise in LH 24 hrs before ovulation, but a positive OPK does not guarranty (sp?) that you did ovulate. Most women here take and track their waking temperature every day. When there is a sustained increase in waking temperature, ovulation is confirmed. Hope this info helps. Mel

I know that most Drs will say that if you are having AF then you are ovulating but that is not true, especially after 40. Estrogen in the first half of your cycle causes the lining to build up and the progesterone increase after ovulation help thicken the lining. The drop in progesterone is what causes the lining to shed and that is AF. The lining can also shed on its own because it is too thick. This mimics AF but is actually break through bleeding and not a true AF. Also, becuase we are older, our hormones do not always work right, so you can have a small increase in progesterone without actually ovulating. This slight increase in progesterone can be enough to cause AF when the progeterone decreases, but it does not mean that you ovulated. My RE said that the only way you can be 100% sure that you are ovulating is to have a progesterone blood test done 7 days after you think you ovulated. The result should be >10. Mel

Hi Kelly.. I'm new here too. In fact, this is my first day on this board.. Or any board! I'm ttc too. I'm learning a lot from this board but wanted to wish you lots of luck after hearing your story. ::smileyhappy:

Thanks Mel..well since AF came on 15th of this mo. and my cycle is usually 29-30 days... i dont understand that if we dtd every other day how come I would not get pregnant. I thought we did last month and I had the fluid and the pain I usually get but for some reason out of the blue i was late ..seriously once in a whole yr...it was the month we actually dtd unprotected. What was weird is that the fuid came and the cramps but then the fluid kinda wasnt as noticable but about 2 wks after that is when i "felt" like I ovulated and then I started my period 2 wks after that! confusing huh? So what if we made an appt to dtd every other day for the whole month? Shouldnt I get pregnant?

Thanks Mel..wow I had no idea about any of that. Well...if i have a period..then I had to of ovulated right? The question then is when and then again about what you said the very few eggs left and quality thereof. Do you take any thing such as DHEA, Maca or other remedies? And how come people say once you start trying..it may take months.. just because that is how the eggs go? like you said earlier..the good one might take a few or more cycles?
