Hi,

I'm 41, will be 42 in December...and I have a question or 2,and I was wondering if I could get your thoughts...

For the past year, my cycle lengths have been ranging from 27 days to 32 days...majority of them are 27-29...I think I have only had one 31 and one 32 in the past year. This is a change for me, as I used to be a solid 29-30...and VERY regular. Also, the other thing that has changed is that I only have one day or so that I feel ovulation, and only once in a while do I have ewcm...used to have it all the time... : (

Anyway, DH had been away all month, so I thought it was a bust...he came home on CD 21, and we were together. Woke up on CD 22 with o pains...bad ones, lasting all night. Took an OPK and the first one, lines were the same, second one, test time was lighter, and the third one, lines were the same... ( yes ,I took 3 because I couldn't beleive that I would O so late)...Also, had very little ewcm...

Anyway, could I possible O on day 22??? I have NEVER O'd that late in my life...

Does that happen as you get older?
Don't I need a significant amount of ewcm to conceive?
Can you have 2 lines like that during the cycle on those OPK's and NOT be ovulating??

I don't want to get my hopes up...

I didn't temp becasue I figured he would be gone most of the month, so now I'm just stuck?

I know I just have to wait it out, but I was wondering what thoughts anyone would have on this....

SOrry for all the questions, I just don't know where else to turn...

Hi There:

Yes, I think it's very possible you ovulated that late. As we get older, the cycles tend to get less regular and I think that's why a lot of women in their 40's get the ooops pregnancies. My CNM told me I should get a OPK and that they are very reliable.

I think the question for you now is, will there be enough time for implantation. My guess is that this is one of those longer cycles you talked about and you BD at just the right time. Yay!!

Let us know what happens:>)

Thanks for your input on this...

I just took another OPK ( yes I'm obsessing )and it was a BLARING positive... should I tell DH to come home early or is the two days ago still ok??? Not sure if he can, that's why I want to know if Tuesday's would still be good...
THe blaring positive means I should O in about 12-24 hours right??

I guess Tuesday nights won't do???
What do you think???

Well, I've heard that sperm can live up to 5 days, although that's probrobly unlikely. Two days should be still good. Yes, if your test is positive now, you should ovulate within the next 24 hours so I wouldn't call him home from work but maybe give him a heads up that you would feel better if you give it another try tonight:>) Remember the egg will hang out for 24 hours also, waiting for the swimmers!!

I hope this is your month!!!

Hi J,

First of all, you two enjoyed being together without even realizing that you may have been ovulating--and I think that a lot of times when neither of you are stressed out, you can enjoy each other more and the boys are freer about swimming their way to the egg! That's my completely unscientific theory. :-)

I always thought that you got pregnant when you BD'd (baby danced) WHEN you were ovulating or a day or so after you ovulated, but I've since learned that BD'ing a day or two before ovulation is a good time as well! So it seems that just by luck of the draw, you and your husband hit a good time! Yay!

Women's cycles do change as we get older. I used to be 28 days on the nose. Now I'm on a 25 day cycle. My luteal phase is still good at about 14 or 15 days...but who knows what all this means.

I remember when I was younger and I had so much CM dripping out of me (TMI!) it actually scared me at the time! Ah, if I'd only known then that I was so fertile then...not that I was seeing anyone I wanted to have a family with then but... I don't have a lot of CM these days and rely on PreSeed for help on occasion.

Anyhow, don't fret. And if your husband is able to make it home to BD one more time without it being super stressful to either of you, go for it! But otherwise, I do think you two may get lucky this month!!

GOOD LUCK!

Lois

Hi,

I ovulate late as well. I just turned 41 and am using the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. When I was using the regular sticks I would start on day 10 like they suggest and go through a ton b/4 I got a positive OPK. Now with the CBEFM I have discovered I don't "o" until days 16-17. My cycle has remained the same though being 30-31 days so my luteal phase is not affected by late "o" ing and my CM is still a faucet. I have to use a tampon around "o" because it is so much (sorry TMI) which is why I am so frustrated as to why we are now moving on to cycle #7. My DH had a VR in 12/06 and 2 SA's shows he is fine!

Good luck TTC and I hope you caught the egg this month!!!!!
