Hi I think I asked this question on this board a long time ago. My fiance and I are debating throwing caution to the wind and seeing if we can get pregnant. He is 50 and I am 41. We have three kids a piece and are actually surprised that we would like a baby together. Anyway no big deal if it doesnt happen but I was wondering if any of you TTC has a husband/boyfriend over the age of 40? Are you more scared of chromosomal problems? I never thought I would be thinking about this. All the info I have read has me scared.

A good friend of mine is 44 yrs old. Her husband is 55 yrs old. they have 8 children. Her husband was 38 yrs old when they began having children. All of the children have been conceived by a mostly over 40 yr old dad. One child has cerebral palsy, otherwise the others are healthy. My mothers mom was 42 yrs old when she was born and her father was 50 yrs old when she was born. I think there just are risks with any conception and birth at any age and stage of life. I am a Believer in the Lord and believer in that every baby born no matter what the package is a blessing and intended. Many blessings!

Thanks. I dont think 50 is old either but I guess sperm is old when you are 50. Yeah I remember Tony Randall but I think his wife was in her 30s. It stinks when both of us is older. Thank you ladies. It is nice to come somewhere and not get called "are you out of your mind!!??"

Don't forget Abraham and Sarah in the Bible! Now they top the list for being "old" parents. Anything is possible! {hugs}

Carolyn,

I am just like you, 41 1/2 and my DH is 51. I am 8 weeks pg. Yesterday, I was at my Dr's office and he is a well-respected Dr in town. He talked to us about doing age-related testing and I asked him that question, if we should be more concerned about this baby, since DH is 51. The Dr. said he thinks the age of the eggs is the more important factor and DH age is really not that important. Plus, he said 51 is really not that old anyway for a DH.

Best of luck to all of you with IVF! and thanks to all of the advice. We are just going to stop using birth control and see what happens.
