progesterone suppositories/ side effects
Wed, 06-27-2007 - 7:10pm

I am on 100 mg. I take it after i ovulate until i get my period.
I have gained 10 lbs since using this! I am starving most of the day. I also have very sore boobs and nervous. Are these side effects or is this in my head?

My ob told me to use the progesterone 2 days after I ovulate. I am using the clearblue fertility monitor....what would be 2 days? after the 2nt peak and then 2 days later? My tems are all over the place so i don't temp.

Thank you!

Hey Cindy : )

TTC get's so complicated at our age huh? Well, I haven't had any weight gain, opther than water weight with PMS with the Prometrium. I used Clomid CD 3-7 then Estrace CD 8-12, and I started my Prometrium on CD 14...I STILL haven't gotten a peak reading this cycle, now on CD 20, and temps indicate O was 6 days ago.

Good luck to you. I hope your FSH and E2 and P4 are better than mine.

When I was doing IVF, the fertility drugs made me gain about a total of 10 pounds, too. But when I stopped, the weight dropped off.

The only thing I used to take when I was TTC this year was the Prometrium and baby aspirin...The baby aspirin didn't cause any weight gain, but the Prometrium did cause me to gain back another few pounds. I'm always hungry regardless of whether I'm on any medication or not so I can't really help you there...although I would think the the Prometrium tries to help our bodies get ready for maybe it does trigger hunger pangs as well?

My RE and OB told me not to take the progesterone until 4-5 days AFTER ovulation, 'cause too soon can actually hinder your getting pregnant. (I believe a certain dose of the medication can act as birth control.) So if I ovulated on CD11, I'd start taking the Prometrium on CD15 or CD16. 2 days seems really early to me, but maybe your doctor has something else on her/his mind? If you find out, let me know. I'm curious now. But like I said, my RE and OB both drilled this into my head...I already knew what to do 'cause those are the days I took when when I was doing IVFs and IUIs as well.

I took the Prometrium orally, so maybe that has to due with the different days?

Oh, I don't have sore boobs and am not any more nervous than usual. :-)

I don't remember how the fertility monitor works so I can't help you out there. I just went by when I O'd on the OPK...and sometimes I'd start the Prometrium even later if we got a few more BDs in that I thought might still be good days..

Good luck!
