question about Clomid

Hi,

I am new to these message boards, I also posted this question on the Clomid board, please forgive me if you are reading this twice. I am 41, had my first baby 9/03, and wanted to have one more. I wanted to start trying when my first baby was 4 months old, but I never started O'ing. So now I am on my second month of Clomid, the first month I took 100 mg days 5-9 and, with the Clearblue monitor, registered two bars but never O'd. I also had a very long cycle. Now I am taking 150 mg, and my question is, has anyone experienced any problem with the Clearblue monitor detecting O if you are taking Clomid? Or is it just as accurate with or without meds? Should I buy OPT's from the drugstore in addition to using the Clearblue monitor? I did use this monitor to conceive my first, and it worked great. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Dorothy

Dorothy hello and welcome to the board, glad you found us.

I was always told that clomid would not effect any of the testing.

Hi Cathie,

Thank you so much for your reply. No, I have not been having any u/s with the clomid, my doctor said we would do 3 months of Clomid before she turns me over to the infertility group. I have already started the paperwork process for the infertility group, but it seems as though for this first 3 months, I'm just taking the meds and the rest is up to me. I am having alot of side effects with the clomid, though, feeling jittery, many negative thoughts constantly coming in to my head, hot flashes, etc. But last month with 100 mg I didn't ovulate, so we had to go up in dose, though even with the 100 mg I got very depressed. But it's helpful to know about the u/s, now I can ask my doctor if we should do this next month. I feel like I need to be very aggressive, I am going to start to panic soon if I don't see any improvement.

Thank you again for responding, I do feel a little better now.

Cathie,

Thank you so much for all this info!! I really had no idea about the u/s. What part of the cycle do they do it? I am on CD8 right now, and took my last Clomid dose yesterday. Is there still time to do it for this cycle? I'm thinking maybe there is, since the literature I've read says you usually O one week after the last dose is taken. When did your OB do your u/s?

Thanks,

Dorothy

Hi Cathie,

No, my doctor has not talked to me about the hcg shots, u/s or anything. I'm kind of concerned that none of this was considered, but I have not had a chance yet to talk to her about all of this. She was not in the office yesterday, and this morning I left a message with the office and they say she will call me back today. I will keep you posted on what happens after I talk to her - I've requested the u/s, so hopefully at least that will be done.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the info you've given me!! I've done a lot of reading about clomid and management of it, but would never have known what to ask for if it wasn't for you.

Hope things are going well for you.

Dorothy
