Question on heavy bleeding/perimenopause

Hi everyone . . . just wondered if any of you have experienced heavy menstruation since you have entered your 40s?
The second day I am just flooding and clots and everything else and when I mentioned it to the doctor, she said that she hears that alot from women in their 40s. I have had three children and she said it is part of the deal with the years before menopause. Just wondered if it truly is the case or if I am alone? It is only the second day and then it tapers and is pretty ok from day 3-5. Just feel like I can't leave the house on day 1 or 2.

Have been trying to conceive #4, but with no luck as of yet. Thinking as I near age 43 (next week) that it is over for me.
Read that at 43 the odds are only like 13% each cycle. Is that true? Very depressing.

Baby dust to all.

Hi Kathie,

I just turned 41 and I have the same AF as you and have had since I was in my 30's. On days 1 & 2 I have to use 2 tampons and a pad but by days 3-6 it is pretty minimal. I talked to my Dr. as well and she said it is normal unless the clots are extremely large. I had a hysteroscopy when we were thinking of trying IVF and everything looked fine. He said my uterus would have no problem sustaining a pregnancy. Are your cycles still predictable? That has not changed for me in years I am still 30-31 days and "O" ing around day 16-17. I still have a lot of EWCM so I am feeling hopeful that I will get preggo soon. We are starting cycle #7 and my DH had a VR in 12/06 but 2 SA's showed he is up and running. How long have you been TTC?

I have 4 children, DS 17, DD Twins 15, DS 11 and 2 stepchildren DD 12, DS 10 but would still love to have at least 1 with my new DH. We are celebrating our 1 year anniversary on 7/22/07. YEAH!!!

Don't lose the faith! I think it just takes us a little longer!!!

Hi Kathie,

Yup, that's pretty much me.. I hope every month that AF starts on a weekend when I can stay home for the worst days. I'm miserable at work because I don't have the time to go to the bathroom every 20 mins! My cycles started changing when I hit 39. All of the sudden I skipped one out of the blue, and thought I was pg. Took 5 or so hpt's and alll negative.

Hi Kathie:

Yes, that's me to a tee. I turned 40 in January and until two months ago I was fine, 28 day cycles on the nose every month. Now I'm 27 days and the first day or two can't control the bleeding and lots of clots:>( I know two other women personally that has the exact same thing and I know there is more, they just don't talk about it.

Does anyone know if this will effect us TTC????? Anyone had this problem and still got pregnant?

Julie

Thanks so much for posting your replies. Makes me feel like I am not alone. I do really hate that I hope it comes on days when I know I am home as well. You don't even want to head to the store because you're not sure when another clot is going to come and all that blood. What I really hate is that you can actually feel it coming down, which is another new feeling. Guessing that is because we have had more than one child and things are just expanded?

Thanks too for the question on whether or not this make conception harder. That is a great question, and I will be checking to see if we get an answer.

Hugs and baby dust to all of us !
(and thanks again for making me feel i'm not alone . . . btw . . . sometimes ibuprofen works to help minimize the heavy bleeding)

I went through the heavy bleeds in my mid 30's, by 39 I was having very light AF, and long (skipping) cycles. AT 41 I am constantly on hormone replacement, so AF is pretty "normal", I guess. I did conceive at age 36 and delivered at age 37, during perimenopause.

Best wishes to you.

I bf intensively for 2 years up to 3 weeks ago with no ppaf or change in temperatures and very little CM of any description. Now my temperatures dip a little from time to time and I get all sorts of CM trickling out. But I cant make head or tail of my charting and given that I have no temperature rise, I am pretty sure I cant have ovulated yet.

When you say you are on hormone replacement, do you mean you take progesterone then chlomid every cycle? I am wondering how long I have to wait in this confusion before I should start using hormones, especailly as I dont much like the idea. Does anyone know if this funny CM is usual after stopping bf and if I should wait alot longer before trying hormones?

Thanks!
Torielle
ps dont much like that 13% success rate at 43 statistic, given that I am 43 in 3 months!
