Question on "Ovulation test strips"

Hello,

For the first time, I have been testing for the LH surge the past couple of days and have gotten a faint, almost nonexistant line. Today (day 13 of my cycle) I got a darker line for the first time! Yet, the line is still slightly fainter than the control line. Could this be a detection of an LH surge? I will try again later today to see if I get a different, more conclusive result.

Also, what is the maximum amount of time (after dipping the stick on the urine) that I should wait to observe the line? I think I read do not read after 30 minutes. However, I remember reading somewhere that the test is not conclusive until 40 minutes have gone by? Which is correct?

Thanks,

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

I haven;t done too much OPK testing.....but I suggest you ask this same question on the Clomid Message Board. They get ALOT more activity there, and there are over 40 gals on it too.

Check it out, you will get lots of great answers, pronto!

I got the lh + surge this morning. The test line was much darker than the control. I feel like an expert now. My advice is to not drink much about 3 - 4 hours before test. I had started testing for LH surge (for the first time ever) since cd=7 since my cycle is very irregular for the past 6 months.

Best wishes to all,

Hi Cathy,

My friend was told to test for her lh surge at 8pm! Then, if +, to do bd the next morning! She got pg naturally. She and her dh were advised by a bionutritionist to take glutamine 600mg 4/day. Supposedly this increases ewcm and sperm, respectively. It can be obtained at GMC stores. After taking the vitamins and after taking a break from artificial insemination procedures, she got pg in 6 weeks with TTC#1 after trying to conceive for about a year. She was about 38 or 39.

Best wishes!

This is informative regarding the use of opk. After receiving a positive result on my opk (CBE and strip I bought over the internet), I decided to conduct an experiment. I wanted to see if (1) dilution and (2) waiting time would have any effect on my result. I drank an 8 oz glass of grape juice quickly. In about 1 hour, I tested again with just the internet strip (cheapest test). Results: I tested a strong positive. Conclusion: the LH surge was strong enough to withstand dilution and a short waiting time. Not sure if this applies to everyone since apparently some people have less lh surge than others. I thought it might be of some value to those who have yet to receive a positive opk and are new to the testing.
