I have actually had exceptionallly heavy periods since I gave birth to #3!! I was 43 at the time. She is 2 1/2 now and it hasn't let up. I am like this for the first day-to-2 days of my period. I must wear 2 overnight pads to bed and during the day I wear a super plus tampon plus an overnight pad. I have soaked through more clothes than I could ever imagine. My gyn is not concerned. He said that the bcp will help alleviate this, but I am so sensitive that I get horribly nauseous when I take them. The other choice is where they wash out your uterus with hot saline solution, thereby cleaning out your uterine lining. You will not have any more periods...but will be sterile. While I am no longer ttc, this is not an option for me(though his nurses swear by it!).
