after reading many books/ boards we don't really have much of a chance of getting pregnant on our own. How do you keep positive? I would have hope if i was covered for infertility but i'm not.
really how many % actually get pregnant on there own 40 or over?
I know you do hear of them but i have a feeling it's very low.

I have been ttc since i was 38 now 40.

April:
Im 46 and from what I have been told by my doctor that I have 5% chance of becoming pregnant due to my age, but, he also said your chance of getting pregnant depends on how you body responds to the ivf injections. I am now on my 2nd ivf attempt due to the fact that he said I responded as well as a 25 yr old.
My FSh was 8.5 and he told my from the start that if my fsh had been above 10 he would
not allow me to do ivf from the get go.
Thats what I understand and Know, however I did have someone from Canada on this site basically tell me the other day that FSh level didnt matter according to her doctor, that it could be inaccurate.
I trust my doctor, hes the top of his field here and his sucess rate is tremendous so I trust his judgement on this matter
I hope this helps you
whatever decision you make, good luck

Hi April,

I'm 40 & the only advice my doctor gave me at the pre-pregnancy consultation was "Don't try too hard.

Hi

what does not try so hard mean?

does it mean no ovulation testing, temp testing, just have sex whenever?

I want to be in that state of mind...I was not worried and was having fun for the first 9 months but when i didn't become pregnant i get very worried.

<< really how many % actually get pregnant on there own 40 or over?>>

In 2003, 102,249 babies were born to women over 40 in the US - 5,769 were from donor egg.

No.1 - I don't believe the numbers are as low as they tell us

No.2 - I don't believe I am a statistic - my fertility may be better (or worse) than the national average, but if others can get pregnant at my age, then I believe I can too.

No.3 - As long as you are cycling and ovulating and having sex - you can get pregnant.

No.4 - I read the stories in my collection below!

I am feeling the same things. My FSH is too high to concieve on my own (30.1) according to doc's....my ovarian reserve is too low to concieve on my own according to doc's (7.1). Without ins. we are out for ART. So, we try Clomid, and we PRAY our spirits into the presence of God the Father Himself. Praying for a miracle, I know my God can provide.

I'm with Catherine...if others can do it then so can I !!!!! I think some of the worst road blocks we TTC over 40 chicks have to deal with is Drs, freinds, family telling us we are just too old ...and then we believe it which depresses us and stresses us out.

The mind can convince the body of a lot of things and I think this is one of them......so believe in miracles, have some preliminary testing done like an HSG to be sure that your tubes are open and then GO FOR IT !!!!!
