Waiting to TTC
Sun, 08-26-2012 - 11:19pm

Hi All.  Not officially TTC YET>  Well technically was on a break I guess.  Just turned 40 this year. I have one son from international adoption, adopted 9 years ago at age 2.5months from Tbilisi Georgia.  He's a handful.  ADHD with ODD, medicated but still a VERY BIG handful.  you would think I would be nuts to consider another one especially on my own

Was married a short time, about 2.5 years from Aug 2009 thur earlier this year, separated last October.  We started TTC after our wedding but my cycles were being a pain.  Went thru prometrium for 4 months, still no luck. then basic fertility treatment work up.  6 months of clomid, with HCG cycle 1-3 and U/S monitoring.  cycle 4-6 Clomid with no U/S monitoring.  HSG was normal.  DH's results werent.  retested another 3 months later after having him go caffeiine free and taking Male FertilAid.  Results were worse.  1st RE suggested IVF w/o any IUI.

We waited a few months then a 2nd RE who put me on femara with Ovidrel.  We went thru 3 IUI and 2 missed cycles, DH results were better.  All IUI failed.  No other known problems last year.  Stopped TTC just over a year ago and were saving up for IVF, probably in Canada due to lower costs.  But things went down hill fast.  I was saving and DH was spending, didnt work out......

Now I'm 40 and still want a biological child.  probably part of it due to ongoing pgs at work and my supervisor just adopted her 2 infant nephews.  have considered TTC as single previously... still not sure about it completely.  not very good at having a community I can rely on or turn to.  Suffer from ongoing major recurring depression (and anxiety).  Went in for pap and annual due to slightly abnormal cycles (just before 40th bday).  Found out I have a uterine fibroid, submucosal, and possibly a dermoid cyst on one ovary as well as 3-4 cysts on the other ovary, possibly complex.  GYN 1st tells me I need to make a decision, if I'm done TTC or not...

Went to see a 2nd dr, she hasnt done any u/S yet but is going by my prior records.  cysts and fibroids appear to be small, but if they are what the 1st dr thinks they will either stay the same or get bigger, they dont go away on their own.  I had simple cysts while taking clomid but they always went away.  2nd dr makes it sound simpler and better although she also says something similar about am I done having children and okay with that... and how when you're 40 the chances only go down considerably... nothing like a boost

After a discussion, I'm waiting for about 6 weeks for a 2nd u/s to see if fibroids and cysts are getting bigger.  plus she'll hopefully be able to tell me then how much they interfer with TTC. if necessary may have to have a hystereocopy for the removal of the fibroids.  just not ready to quit yet... but again part of it I think is being around people who get pg, makes it harder to me.  Trying to pick out gift(s) over the weekend for my supervisor made it hit hard again

Hi Suzanne and welcome to the board. I am sorry you are on a break from TTC but glad that you are being very proactive with the doctors in finding out where you stand. Hopefully you will get the green light to proceed soon.

Feel free to jump into any of the threads and chat and please do keep us posted on the news from the dr. I wish you all the best and look forward to sharing this journey with you.
