ok. i am 42. haven't posted in a while, but wondering if it is just me or is this normal? i have three children (13, 8 and 3) and really had no problem conceiving the first two. i actually conceived on the first try. took a couple of months with the third and i thought i was done. for the past year, i have been "thinking about another" and over the last 4 months have really wanted to start trying before it is too late. we haven't been using protection, but haven't actually been trying to exactly time things perfectly either. then again, we did this with the first three and didn't take long to get pregnant.
this past month, we were pretty active during the week of ovulation and today i got my period. so it doesn't seem like things are going to be as easy this time. my question . . . can you be pretty fertile before 40 and then have your fertility decline and it be normal? anyone else more fertile when they were younger?

hope to hear back from someone so i can rest assured that this is pretty natural in your 40s and that i should just keep trying.

hugs and baby dust to all of you :)

I am 40 and have been ttc for over 18 months. We have a 9 year old daughter and got pregnant with her within the first month. We have been using a fertility monitor.

good luck!!

Unfortunately, I think it is true. I have 6 kids and all were conceived the first month of trying - my last was when I was 39. I'm 44 now, and don't seem to be getting pg so easily. I've had tons of labwork done, and everything was normal. So it's probably age. I've had many months with perfect timing, positive OPK's, even tried clomid, and nothing. I did get pg 4 times between July '05 and July '06, but 2 were m/c's and 2 chemical pg's. I'm not giving up yet though! I started taking Fertility Blend this cycle and if I'm not pg I'll continue for at least a few more months. I also get acupuncture treatments weekly right now, because she says my body is in a pretty depleted state. She thinks about 6 more weeks of these weekly treatments to get me in a better place. Good luck to you.

I just turned 42 in October. I have two dd's, the first one I conceived when I was 35 on the first try. The second one at age 39 on the third try. I conceived last February at age 41 on the second try, but mc'd at 7 weeks. I have been ttc ever since with no luck, and timing has been perfect. I had to have a d&c, we found out when I went in for my checkup and ultrasound at 9 weeks that the baby had died at 7 weeks, so I am worried that maybe the d&c messed me up inside somehow. I am going to make an appt to go for testing soon.

Well, the stats for us as a population are very clear that fertility declines after 35 and then again after 40.
